As a Roblox developer, I would like to see documentation on Animation importing expanded upon to clarify and make known the importance of the Initial Poses folder.
The motivation behind this request is that @Mr00756 had an issue with importing animations into Roblox studio, I threw out some options to help, and they found said folder to be the issue. I hope this request, and the thread linked, let future developers not face the same problem.
A note of good faith. I don’t mean to make the request on the OP’s behalf, as it’s not directly my issue. Hopefully that doesn’t nullify this request.
Yes please The experience of importing animations from FBXs feels far too unexplained, the documentation covers meshes (kinda) but hardly covers animations. Especially the importance of some features which are entirely unexplained!
The experience of using custom armatures feels heavily undocumented, even though custom armatures is the most common reason for people to build rigs outside of Roblox. Would really appreciate if more attention was brought to this pipeline in Roblox’s documentation.
One of the things I recently ran into with my team was whether or not the initial poses folder has significant importance outside of importing animations and could be safely deleted. As keeping 300+ rigs with 45 cframe values seemed like a waste for memory usage). Having this cleared up in documentation somewhere would be very useful.
Note for future onlookers, as long as you don’t intend to import animations from fbx, you can safely delete the initial poses folder.
