Clockwork's Golden Shades Accessory Doesn't Have PBR Texture

Issue Description

The new accessory, “Clockwork’s Golden Shades” does not include the PBR texture shown in the promotional GIF on the Robux purchase page. The GIF displays the material as “Metal,” but when purchased, the shades do not include any PBR texture, leading to a discrepancy between the marketing and the actual product. This is similar to the previous issue with the “Sinister G” accessory, which was marketed with PBR but lacked texture.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Go to Roblox’s Robux purchase page.
  2. Observe the GIF showing the “Clockwork’s Golden Shades” and note the material labeled as “Metal.”
  3. After purchasing the accessory, go to the product page for Clockwork’s Golden Shades.
  4. Compare the appearance of the shades, noticing that no PBR texture is applied, despite the marketing showing otherwise.

Expected Behavior

The accessory should have the PBR texture as shown in the GIF on the purchase page, with the correct “Metal” material being applied in the game.

Are you testing it in a game with shadowmap/future lighting and specular scale set to 1? Metalness does not apply to voxel lights and specular scale controls how strong the metalness map is applied.

It’s in all games

Ngl it looks good without pbr everywhere :people_hugging:

The PBR effect only works in games that have the latest lighting technology enabled. In this case, Catalog Avatar Creator is using an old lighting system that doesn’t support PBR. You need to join a game that is more up to date with the lighting system to see the effect.

The game needs to have specular on

This is such an easy fix. The shades just need to have the mesh’s material switched back to plastic (as the headphones are) and use the same SurfaceAppearance property that the headphones use to achieve that golden effect in-game while in R15.

Also, here’s another fun fact. The Gold Clockwork Headphones use the hex color code #bd8e43 while the Clockwork’s Golden Shades use #bf9042 on their respective base textures. So even if the suggested fixes above were implemented to the shades, they still wouldn’t match whilst worn together, mostly on R6 since PBR textures aren’t supported on that. So if any staff plan on fixing this, please don’t forget to properly match their texture’s colors too!

Thanks for the report.

  • This Accessory was not made with PBR. The metallic effect you see is achieved by setting the item’s material to ‘Metal’.
  • Unfortunately, depending on things like lighting and render settings, Metal material doesn’t always show itself very well.
  • The web thumbnail renderer does not take into account material effects.
  • The gif was made with more “ideal” settings for showing the metal effect.

I’d say update either the headphones to use the metal texture aswell or update the shades to use pbr like the headphones

Mostly because it would be better if both items were consistent

I agree with this, it makes no sense for them to look virtually different unless this isn’t supposed to be a set at all (which, it clearly is)
