[CLOSED] [$2500 USD/month] Programmer needed for Robloxian Highschool

Hey everyone. RedManta, LLC is looking to bring an additional programmer onto our most popular game Robloxian Highschool.

The Game
Robloxian Highschool is one of roblox’s top highschool experiences offering a variety of activities. If you haven’t played the game then you should definitely do that first!

The Job
You will work to implement new features in the game. You will be expected to work within the large (but not overly complicated) system that is already in place so you must be willing to work alongside other people & be willing to read and learn existing code. You should be prepared to write code for UI that works on all desktop and mobile devices.

The Work Style
You will be expected to put in 20 hours a week. We give the team several delivery targets every week and you will be expected to meet them. Good communication skills are necessary. We use a Discord server to communicate daily and various tools for tracking tasks.

The Pay
We will pay $2,500 USD per month for this job - half on the 15th and half at the end of the month. We do not offer Robux as a payment option.

RedManta LLC
We’re RedManta, owned by @Sharksie and @AbstractAlex. As a member of a RedManta development team you will have access to our content network, personal expertise, guidance, and funding. We have multiple games released and more in progress, so there is plenty of opportunity for anyone who wants to work with us.

The Legal Stuff
You must be 13 or older, and if you are accepted, you must supply us with either a W9 (Americans) or W8-BEN (non-Americans) form. This is the same form you send to roblox to devex. You’ll also be required to sign a standard contract that clarifies your relationship to RedManta.

How to Apply
If you’re interested, DM either @Sharksie or @AbstractAlex on the devforums, or contact us on discord if you already have us. Include examples of previous work and a couple hundred lines of code you’ve written (the code can do anything). We’ll make our final decisions by Monday, March 26.

And remember, If you want the job but you aren’t sure you’re good enough - apply anyway!

Edit: More info:

  • This job is for the foreseeable future, not just one month.
  • There are 2-5 other programmers working on the project, but you’ll only be given the workload of one programmer (of course)

Opportunities like this are why I wish I had assembled a portfolio that accurately demonstrates my experience.

You’ve got 6 days! Plenty of time.

Is there any specific skill or specialization you’d like to see in applicants? If I’m going to make any sort of portfolio I’d like to focus on something relevant to you.

Robloxian Highschool is a very diverse game in terms of the content it offers. We have minigames, housing, localization, avatar editor, and lots of other stuff. There’s really no one skillset that we’re specifically searching for - just someone who’s generally good at programming in Roblox.

Are things like similar code formatting (relative to what already exists) and general naming conventions a thing that you guys are looking for?

You’ll be expected to work within the existing frameworks (e.g. don’t rewrite systems), but we’re not very strict on exactly how you write code.

Gonna try to put an impressive portfolio together, so maybe this time I can be considered!

Will programmers be having to make the interface layout and design, or just script the GUIs given?

Will we have to make the animations ourselves or will they be provided ready to be scripted in?

And will general content(buildings/models and textures) be made by someone else or will we have to make some of that stuff ourselves?

Trying to gauge how much of this job is pure programming or if there is some “artistic” decisions that will have to be made by us.

You’ll have to make some guis yourself, but we’ll guide you on the layout and behavior and we already have templates you can use. This way you can structure the hierarchy and specific design the way it needs to be done in order to be implemented properly.

Animations and buildings/meshes/models will be provided.

How do you manage to provide enough work to have this many developers working on different tasks? The game sounds huge. Will it ever be “finished?”

Modern game development is very different from the old days where you ship a cartridge and make a sequel a couple years later. Especially for free to play games, constant development and improvements can be used to keep a game successful for a very long time.

Games implementing this strategy don’t really have a concept of “finished”.

Thanks for applying, everyone! We got so many great applicants this time. It was so hard to pick one that we actually ended up picking 2.

We’ve got a doc with everyone’s applications though, and we’ll definitely reach out to you guys when we need more programmers for other projects.
