Howdy-howdy!
I’ve been working on a weird victorian-renaissance-medieval-fantasy-anachronistic-clutterfunk roleplay game called Ofeilia for some time now, primarily on my own but recently with the help of my best friend. It’s more of a passion project than anything else, and as such I don’t really have any plans to monetize it should it catch on (hence the low budget), but nevertheless I’m looking to polish it up for the small community we do have.
Here's some progress pic spam of the game for the interested!
Neither of us are experienced in programming, and since it’s just an imagination-oriented RPG, we’ve been able to get away without a lot of heavy scripting; but alas. What’s a roleplay without a proper day-night cycle? Are our characters to bask in a prolonged sunset for all of eternity?
I’ve tried cobbling together one on my own, but I’m useless beyond a basic sun-goes-up-sun-goes-down loop. Since our game has a fairly realistic style, I’m looking for a more dynamic cycle that affects the lighting of sunrise, midday, sunset, and nighttime (colorshift, fogcolor, brightness, possibly shadowsoftness), preferably easily adjustable since I like fooling around with the lighting color palettes and stuff. I’d also like the skybox to shift to a different one at night since I find the default night sky pretty lacking, but I don’t know whether that’s possible.
My budget is 2.5k, but it’s negotiable since as a builder I don’t really have a scope of how complex this job really is. I’ll be paying with a one-time payout through group funds. You can contact me here on the Developer Forum or on Twitter at https://twitter.com/Masquerata if you’re interested or need more details.
do i need to turn off the lights when it’s day and turn it on when it’s night.
or is it only changing the time?
if it’s only changing the time, then it’s very easy and i can do it for FREE
but if i need to script the lights too, then i must see the models first. if it’s a complicated model then it will be kinda hard but if it’s organized then i can do it easily.
I don;t think you need to hire anyone, because all you have to do is turn on shadowmap, change the ambience, lighting color, fogend max value and minimum value, time, and possibly a few plugins. All can be manually tested with the lighting service.
It looks like it’s a lot, but it’s really not
Thank you for the interest, everyone! I’ve found a scripter to work with.
The reason I’m hiring someone for this seemingly easy task is I’m looking for a more complex cycle that takes all aspects of lighting into account, which I’ve tried to make on my own, but it never came out the way I wanted it to. I have a difficult time scripting in general, probably due to my overly “right-brained” tendencies and dyscalculia. I figured it’d be best to commission someone who knows what they’re doing rather than be constantly dissatisfied with the end result.
I appreciate everyone’s suggestions nonetheless! It’s nice to know I’m not underpaying like I initially thought haha. ᕕ(ᐛ )ᕗ
I created video of advance day and night cycle if you know how to code you can just add it to your game. With it you can adjust how long day and night time should be.You can always set it to only be day or night time and
change the Lighting.ClockTime to update what time it should be in game.
Here you can get the script.
