If you are not an experienced developer or have not read the full post, please do not apply, it will save us both time.
— About me:
I’m linking my group here to show that this post is not a joke: Paradigm Games - Roblox
Financial statements can be provided to prove the legitimacy of this job as well.
Why am I doing this?
Gaming became so boring for me that I’m willing to hire a team of developers to create a game that’s tailor made to my interests.
I suspect that my inability to enjoy games comes from the fact that working as a developer, it will suck the fun out of the content you create or you will become too busy analyzing the games you play.
What will I be doing?
For this I’ll be taking a hands off approach; only keeping track of critical aspects of the game, such as monetization, UX, fluidity/gamefeel and compatibility.
The team will be doing the game ideas/design
All team members must have a proper portfolio in order to apply.
How frequent meetings or anything else comparable will happen, is yet to be decided, I don’t like doing these myself, so it won’t be too often.
— Payment:
-
The budget is 4 million robux / 14,000 USD
-
% share is 50% for the entire team or more depending on whether they’ll want to maintain the game after release.
-
That means if you apply with a team of 3, you’d get a monthly salary of 1,444.44 USD. Just please bare with the fact that I had already devexed this month, so for the first month, I’ll only be able to pay in Robux or do a lesser amount of USD and provide the remainders next month.
-
If the game is not finished by the deadline, the final month’s payment will be split up into portions until the game is finished to an acceptable state: no bugs and fluid enough UX for a public release.
-
If the game shows promise, additional funding may be continued past the deadline.
— Requirements:
-
The game must be published underneath the group I’ve linked in this post, because after all, it is my money that’s funding the project, and hopefully place visits from said game can sprinkle onto my other games.
-
All team members must be good at communication, a lack of thereof is a critical point of failure.
-
The team lead must have at least one fully finished and polished game to prove that they can finish this task. Programming staff from Paradigm games may be exempt from this on a case by case basis.
-
The game’s code structure must be built from the ground up with future updates in mind. Future-proofing is critical and will likely save you time the further you go into the project.
-
Max teamsize is 3.
-
Max development time is 3 months.
-
Game must be mobile compatible and optimized
-
A solid monetization plan is required; no project is greenlit without monetization, because it is necessary to recoup costs.
-
The learning curve should be completable within less than 5 minutes.
-
Easy to learn but hard to master is a key principle which divides superficial games from ones you can play often. The focus of this game is replayability. This is something I want to play whenever I’m bored, and I’m bored often.
-
At least one or an additional aspect that can increase replayabilty, some examples are: randomized selections/generation, procedural content, emergent gameplay, dynamic difficulty; anything that can throw unpredictability into the mix.
-
The game must be multiplayer compatible and not require more than 1 player to start
-
The game should be able to sell itself: have distinct game mechanics or/and visuals that can help it spread through word of mouth. Essentially making it bait for reaction videos.
-
No linear games allowed
-
No turnbased strategy games allowed
-
No horror games allowed - they are alienating to a large portion of the userbase and require time consuming audio design, visual cues and more, which will require time that can be used elsewhere.
Examples of games I like
Miscellaneous:
• Despicable Forces
• Speed Masters (party game)
• Legendary (party game) (kinda puzzly with stats, but the developer removed this aspect from the game in an update)
Combat + Puzzle:
• HOURS
• Recoil (once you get the hang of it, figuring out the best stats pretty much becomes a puzzle)
• Silence
• Polyguns (same as recoil)
Multiplayer Or Party games - PVP centric
• Q-Clash
• Rollernauts
(might as well be added to this genre Purple Skittles 1 & 2)
Sandbox + Puzzles:
• Mount of the Gods
• Arkham Series
• Subnautica
• Minecraft
• Pikuniku (not really a sandbox game but whatever)
• Just Cause 2
• Watch Dogs 2
• Alien Isolation (not really a sandbox but whatever)
Miscellaneous:
• Fantastic Frontier
• Paradise Mall
• Deathrun
not everything fits tightly with a short descriptor but hopefully that kinda gives the vibe of what im going for.
an example of a possible assessment would be:
so something that has PVP, optional PVE if possible, with some aspect where you need to think critically. short learning curve (<5 mins), mobile compatible.
If you are doubtful over this job, then this job isn’t for you. Uncertainty slows down development time.
