I play a few games on Kongregate.com, a flash game site. In the comments system, players can [+] or [-] (basically thumbs up or down) any comments. Each comment his a single number as a rating, and the [+] or [-]'s it gets increases and decreases this number as you would expect.
Comments with a high rating and frequent pluses get placed on a “Top Comments” category. Comments with a rating of -3 are hidden, and you must click “show” to view the comment.
I feel such a rating system for ROBLOX might help encourage users to put more effort into their suggestions and comments on a game page, and would make spam comments less irritating and perhaps less frequent. I find it particularly satisfying to find one of my comments in the “Top Comments” section, and I find myself placing a lot more effort in my ideas and comments in hopes of receiving pluses.
Is there any reason I’m unaware of that this would not be a good update for ROBLOX?

The problem is that you’re trying to fix the comments system, which is completely broken. It basically needs to be re-done from scratch, which your suggestion basically is doing, since it would be changing it to something other than chronological, which it is right now.
However, there’s another problem on Roblox that makes comments not work very well: What happens when someone swaps out the contents of the place? You end up with a bunch of outdated comments clogging up the top of the comments section that take quite a while to go away.
You could insert a ‘delete comment’ button for the place owner, or a ‘delete all comments’ button. The issue with this would be that people who make fake games and so on could delete the false comments, and people could get rid of hate comments and so on. Therefore this would make their games look better.
On the other hand - you could have a new game button on the same place which resets all ratings, comments, thumbnails, images and so on. Excluding place visits…
