Complexity in building

Hey,

I’ve been working on a game that involves spacecraft and building bases and vehicles. But, I know roblox doesn’t exactly have the player base that will want to make super complex ships that are made using super complex tools. I feel like star fields approach using premade modules is good, however at that point it seems like just pre-making ships similar to most space games would be 10x easier and intuitive compared to making players build their own.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

A modular system sounds like a good idea and would be a lot easier to pick up. As you mentioned starfield does this quite well but another good example is robocraft which uses modular systems but also has almost free-roam when it comes to building things.

Having modular parts be obtainable or unlockable feels like an intuitive way of showing progression.

Onboarding will be key here, you don’t want to overwhelm the player with free reign too early but you also don’t want to make them feel too limited by making it too hard to obtain certain parts.

All in all this idea seems awesome, I look forward to seeing updates.
