I’m wondering if it’s against marketplace tos to upload accessories like a “Shoulder pal”
Here’s an example of what I want to upload:
This accessory is small and goes on the shoulder. But since it’s of someone else’s avatar, I’m concerned if it could be against the tos since it’s using other UGC accessory models. I have a feeling this is allowed in general, but if the owner of the UGC contacts you about it you should take it down.
Considering the triangle limit is 4000, you probably have to considerably change the original mesh anyway. Most UGC items are not optimized at all beyond 4000 tris.
Ultimately its up to the ugc creator who made the original item if they want to strike you. Since your item won’t impact the sales of the original item, its unlikely anyone would care. I’d be honored if I saw one of my items on someone’s shoulder pal!
Copyright law would indicate the original creator has full rights to make the shoulder pal version, not you, until their copyright expires. This is a legal issue, not a TOS one, but you could get banned from UGC for uploading copyright violations.
I suggest just asking them if they’ll consider making a shoulder pal version.
I already had the pals under 4k tris, I’m sure most people would be happy to see their stuff getting used on a shoulder pal. I ultimately made them for friends and didn’t want profit. I already uploaded a few I have to say, but with the possible risks I took them offsale and it doesn’t look like I’ll be getting them onsale, because it’s hard to get a bunch of UGC creators to agree for usage of each individual accessory.
It’s hard because it’s of my friends avatars with multiple accessories from different creators. I already see tons of pals like that in the marketplace. But I get your point and I don’t want to take risks, I took mine offsale and don’t plan on uploading anymore with the hassle of getting permission from a bunch of creators.
