Constructive Feedback - GFX

Hey there! I have recently done a speed art video and this was the finished product, what are your thoughts on this?

Things I’ve found after I’ve finished: The characters’ feet seem to sink into the ground. Needs texturing.

The lighting is slightly superficial. It feels like the whole room is lit the same all around – not many shadows, no real depth to the build around it.

I really like it! Although it’s clean, I think you should add some effects to the graphic. It looks kind of plain in a way. I also think the lighting needs improvement, as previous replies also mentioned, for example, some more visible shadows.

This seems amazing! You should add school objects in people’s hand, what I mean is textbooks in someone’s hands.

I see what you mean, appreciate the feedback!

Personally I would add a bit of “realism” to the building itself.

Everything looks super clean which isn’t really a bad thing, but a few posters on the wall, a paper of two laying on the ground, and numbers on the doors would go a long way to adding a more “real-life” feel to the school hall.

Other than that it’s a very clean design. I would warm up the lighting a bit but I do appreciate it over-all.

Yeah I agree. After I finished the graphic I wanted to texture the floor and walls to give it that for realistic feel. Appreciate the feedback!

The lighting seems strange to me, the photo has no real depth to it, add more shadows and change the lighting.

Looks nice, should add some depth by placing more people in the back doing various activities, could also put a focus on one person walking with a backpack while in a crowd, just more Minor details like stuff going on in the background would really help. Some other minor details you could do is it some wear and tear or commonly known as “Grunge maps” to the locks at the edges and corners here and there, also could add stickers or various discolorations in the lockers too. Good job :+1:
Edit-
Should choose your characters more carefully instead of just using some random profiles. It takes some time to design a good looking character with good clothes and hair that match the actual setting of the scene, and items to go along with it. But it’s always worth the time spent doing that. On a sidepoint of design, 2019 is all about diversity, so adding different colors of skin and various types of players would be a real good way to spark up your design in a very modern kind of way. Besides that, mostly it just comes down to composition, right now everyone is kinda up front together and there is no real focus on anyone or any specific kind of action. So you should also try working with “Depth of Field” aka DoF. It will add depth to your piece and also keep the viewers focus from wandering around the empty hallway. For lighting you should go with a fluorescent color since that’s what most schools seem to use, also could emphasize the materials a bit more by adding some more specular. If you’re using cinema4d I would recommend changing the reflectiveness to this setting

This’ll help to make it look a bit better, also if the scene feels lighter in the end, don’t be afraid to add some contrast in paint or Photoshop to spruce up the colors.
Also feel free to bump up the specular settings or increase the strength, just keep in mind the higher the strength the more metal looking it’ll be instead did plastic. Also feel free to lower the roughness, but not too much otherwise the specular lighting will wash out the colors.
Edit-
The posing could also use some work, for example the jocks would be leaning against the lockers with a foot up on one, or throwing stuff in the trash from a distance. The girls might be laughing, or gossiping with their friends. Gotta remember to keep the scene light for your demographic of who is going to see it. What you’re trying to display to others is that it’s a fun place to be with friends and lots of stuff to do. So that’s gotta be the main goal at all times when you’re adding minor details like that.
