What do all 3 examples have in common? For one, they’re using the likeness of popular Youtube and TikTok personalities; secondly, they’re creating a brand endorsement that shouldn’t be there.
Now you may say, “Why is it bad? It’s just a Roblox ad!” and it is terrible because there’s a fake endorsement being created.
As far as I am aware, ads that had the actual likeness of those celebrities aren’t really present on the platform but their names or nicknames are still being used which in most cases are trademarked.
Those ads are also banking on the fact that there are lots of younger fans of those celebrities on the platform and that the faked endorsement will give their groups a boost coming from their fan base, as shown here (blurred out the username for privacy reasons)
If Roblox were to address this issue, this would help the celebrities protect their interests as they wouldn’t need to intervene if there was a strong endorsement towards a game or group that wasn’t agreed upon. This would also keep the users safe from being potentially scammed by users who want to use the fooled users to boost their numbers.
Would you mind expanding more on what qualifies as a clickbait ad? Lets say I make an ad for my gym game that says “mew903 can lift 1000000 pounds with this one simple trick”, would that qualify?
I sifted through some ads for about 30 minutes and found 100 definitely clickbait ads running right now. Here are the links and assetIds associated with the ads, whichever is most convenient for you.
