Converting union to meshpart with colors

I want to convert a union into a meshpart but when I tried it didn’t preserve the colors, is it possible to do this while preserving the colors?

I don’t know I think you need to recolor all the parts in your union after doing so

no I dont think so…

I think it would be because unions use parts and booleans, all their color data is saved relative to each part that makes up the union, verses mesh parts color data comes from a flat image that is wrapped around it according to it UV map.

If it’s 1 solid color, just export and re-import it as a mesh, remove the default texture applied and recolor. Otherwise, you are going to have to texture the object using blender or another modelling software. I believe the data is saved when you throw it into the software, you just need to bake it into a new texture.

If when you export it studio saves a png for the texture also, then yes. Upload the png as an image then set the meshpart’s texture to the image.

If not, then it would seem Roblox doesn’t export the color/texture for unions, so no.

It’s not possible, if a union is converted into a mesh part, all the original colors will be gone and the whole mesh color will be set to the default color of (163, 162, 165)

The only way is to separate any part that is colored differently and export them as individual mesh parts, however, this is very impractical and defeats the whole purpose of Union so I’d recommend you to keep it as Union

You can also try recoloring the whole mesh using Blender given if you know how to use the program though

Hello,

If your mesh uses only one color, you can change it directly from the properties using the Color property.

However, if your Union has multiple colors and materials, converting it to a MeshPart will not retain those colors. In that case, you have two options:

  1. Use a texture instead: You can create a texture that includes all the colors and apply it to the MeshPart.
  2. Re-texture it in Blender: Export your Union as an OBJ, import it into Blender, and apply materials or textures there. Then, you can re-import it into Roblox as a MeshPart with proper textures.

Let me know if you need more details on any step!

I ended up using a union parented and welded to an empty meshpart and it seems to work just fine, A bit janky though.
