There’s a lot of fearmongering regarding COPPA 2.0, now that I’ve actually read the bill - I am pretty certain that Roblox’s support of COPPA 2.0 is a strategic business decision, these are probably the 4 main reasons why:
1: Roblox wouldn’t really be affected by COPPA 2.0’s restrictions on PII due to the fact that COPPA 2.0 doesn’t actually ban companies from collecting PII like some people tend to think.
2: The specific restrictions on targeted advertising that COPPA 2.0 makes are not relevant to Roblox.
3: COPPA 2.0 does make it harder for newer companies to compete, since they probably would want to use targeted ads on YouTube for instance in order to reach a younger audience, with this, that wouldn’t be possible anymore. Additionally, the upfront infrastructure required would be much more expensive for a hypothetical competitor.
4: It looks good to the broader media, I don’t think I need to explain why Roblox finds that very advantageous.
I’m not a lawyer, or a super strong business man or anything like that, but when you see huge support of a proposed bill/new law from a company like we’re seeing with Roblox and COPPA 2.0, that company is almost certainly seeing either dollar signs for themselves, or a red stock number for others.
Bruh how does that cause you to think that those certain users will not able to play or smth? Once you get the context of the situation, the “it will ruin the platform” is gonna be like not what you thought about in the beginning.
Sorry that I fell for some inaccuracies involving Kreek’s video. I know sometimes the situation is a bit exaggerated to basically create more drama. I wasn’t aware of the inaccuracies though. Thank you for pointing it out and showing another video of his talking about it.
True, roblox may have a lot of under 17 users quit and a lot of the users are under 17
It will be like when the original COPPA was actually going to be enforced on youtube in 2020. A big controversy followed by the change really just being a tickbox since the platform is literally unable to moderate who is under 16 and who is 16 or above.
The 16-year-olds are gonna be affected too. I don’t get why the age is varying so much when it just 16 and under that have to deal with this. The topic here was dead for some time, thank you for reviving it though bro.
ima be depressed for like five years if this passes and I have enough to worry about with final exams coming up. it will affect a lot of people in a negative way I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THE UNDER 13S BEING TREATED LIKE BABIES. AND NOW THE 16,15,14, AND 13 YR OLDS ARE BEING TREATED LIKE THIS??
like, come on I finally got freedom from the restrictions in FEBUARY AND THEN IM JUST GONNA GET EM PUT BACK ON?!
i will not stand for this.
this is not right.
Half the people on this thread are highlighting why this law is actually useful. People’s almost parasocial obsession with this platform is worrying.
The facts are it won’t stop under 16s from chatting, it just means they will have safe chat.
It won’t stop under 16s from playing games, but it will stop Roblox and other platforms from collecting data so they can recommend you addicting games.
It will also hand parents the powers to limit what their children are playing.
In short, this bill will improve Roblox not kill it.
99 percent sure nobody wants super safe chat especially if they are 16 and are old enough…
It’s not super safe chat, it’s just safe chat.
And, seeing the things people can say without safe chat, it’s probably for the best.
Super safe chat isn’t even used by Roblox anymore, it was a temporary thing to comply with COPPA 1.0 Regulations
Safe chat is the highest-restricted chat now, for under 13s, but for COPPA 2.0 it will be under 16s.
Normal chat is for 13+ (will now be 16+ if the bill passes for US citizens or COPPA-complying contries.)
You fell for kreekcraft’s bait. And this is an absolutely idiotic set of replies must I add, you should take a break and reflect on what is going on in your life.
And anyway, like @Reditect said, efforts to pass it in the House of Representatives during the 118th Congress killed it and unless they try again, no need to worry about this.
lets just delete roblox atp
are you like 7 or something go outside
Oh sorry my mistake I thought it meant super safe chat
you did fall to his fear mongering. from what i know coppa more affects roblox content creators, which will get less money because they won’t have targeted ads.
all COPPA 2.0 does is stop targeted ads and allow parents to closely monitor what their children are doing online which is objectively a good thing.
I don’t want my mum watching me play roblox…
My old Post:
If they add Screen Recording and viewing your child’s chat history, I wouldn’t be surprised.

That would honestly be amazing. Parents should have every tool at their hands to properly manage their child’s honestly history.
That would be good for parents to know what their child is doing on Roblox, but it seems embarrassing to have a parent watch you play Roblox when you don’t want them to. Chat history viewing is sort of okay. But lets admit it, we all don’t want our parents to watch us, and then when we become parents we probably have to give our future children embarrassing memories by watching them play Roblox daily all day.
I can’t think of one thing that a -13 yr old SHOULD be doing on Roblox that would be embarrassing for a parent to see. I’d argue this should be a feature for under -18 account to allow parents to better protect their children.
