I’ve been searching for a while now and I can’t find any answers to my question. I’m looking at making shirts, but I want to avoid copyright issues.
Would it be alright to use images - for example the Volkswagen logo - on the shirt but not actually write the brand name on the shirt?

Using the Volkswagen Logo will potentially cause future controversy and can give you a warning or be taken down. Also, depends if the company is copyrighted or has permission for commercial use.
I suggest making your own custom clothing, or a not copyrighted similar replica.
