Copyright Strike

Would I get copyright striked for fixing a game that has been broken down for some time? It would contain no copied custom assets, sounds and others plus it would have credits to the real owners of the game?

Why I am asking this is because it seems that the owners do not have any intentions of fixing it.
Can something be copyrighted when the original is broken and dysfunctional?

I assume, since you’re asking, that you don’t have permission. If you don’t have permission, how do you plan on fixing it? Is the game open-source/uncopylocked, or are you going to use more questionable means to steal the game files?
If the game is uncopylocked, do whatever you want. If not, get permission. Nobody here can tell you what will or won’t get noticed by copyright holders or if they even care, but you’re definitely going to be breaking copyright law if you’re not careful.
