17+ games are an alright idea. The only danger is that kids could steal their parent’s ID. It would be the parents fault if they gave their 8 year old kid their id for something they don’t know about. Idk
Well, I don’t really like it, roblox was a place that was very fun without any romance, although I’m 17 years old, I don’t think that’s right
I think the whole ordeal of a “age rating” is just to cover Roblox’s backside legally speaking; I mean for god sake, an 8 year old can just order GTA 5 (or something 18+) from the internet without identifying themselves.
I believe Roblox probably won’t ask for ID unless they add an 18+ option, (not 17+ as the difference is silly).
A platform full of UGC content will always have content not appropriate for all ages, but that does not mean that the platform shouldn’t age up and give developers more freedom over what they can add to their experiences.
It’s ultimately a parent’s responsibility for their child’s safety on the internet. Roblox provides options to limit the number of experiences that a child can join in.
The games design industry has had this problem for many years. You aren’t even age-checked when buying 18 rated games on Steam so it’s not that big of a danger if nobody else is all that bothered, especially when parents these days are extremely lax in terms of game age-ratings.
One time someone uploaded 18+ content on UGC
Just because you don’t think that’s right, it doesn’t nullify the facts.
Romance/love is something a 13 year old can experience, and a vast majority does. 80% of kids have their first crush between the age of 10 and 13, and it does NOT have to be physical.
Leave phsyical/sexual romance out of roblox, sure, but if game characters love eachother for game lore, then that should not be banned.
Yeah. As somebody who likes to play games like DooM Eternal, L4D2, and Half-Life 2, and is unbothered by them, this restriction is obnoxious. Let users play the games they want to play, as long as the games abide by the rules.
Hell, I’ve planned on making games similar to those, so this is gonna be problematic.
Exactly, of course sexuality shouldn’t be allowed; however, I believe romance (as stated) should be allowed since it expands Roblox’s possibilities, themes and creative freedom.
That’s been happening since Roblox began. And it will keep happening because of Roblox being a free engine. The only way to prevent most of it would be to charge a fee from a bank account for use of Studio but that’d quickly make Roblox lose one of its main unique selling points.
Age restriction should show a warning saying whats in the game before you play it
Yes, the romance of physical romance can be left out of roblox. But what about alcohol? In my country, alcohol is allowed from the age of 18, so this innovation violates the laws of my country. (Of course roblox is not bound by the laws of other countries, it just affects me as a citizen). Also, alcohol is bad for health, no matter what age you are, I don’t think legalize alcohol in roblox will put kids on the right way.
Adult sites put disclaimers on the screen before you access them, and we know how well that works
But yeah, verifying your ID seems like a pretty outrageous thing to do.
Its just a drink. It is pretty much saying a background character is drinking
Do you know how many kids play Grand Theft Auto?
And how many kids go around stealing vehicles and blowing up stuff because they saw it in GTA? Not many.
Same goes with alcohol, just because it is depicted somewhere, doesn’t mean the consumer will automatically want to participate in it in real life.
What i mean is the alcohol thing in what is 17+ is someone in the background drinking
I myself have been playing 18s for the past 7 years (around 11ish). Whilst I do agree that the higher romantic side should still be banned (for the sake of avoiding games 100% based around them, devs know who they are), pretty much everything else is extremely limited compared to off-platform games such as GTA and RDR, among others. It appears nobody at Roblox has got the message that nobody else is as strict and nobody wants it this strict. We’re adults at the end of the day…
Is there a reason for this? .
Most likely because of strict laws applying to video games and what they depict in said countries.
