They’ll need to take a selfie anyway so I would really just question the parent’s ability to know what their child is doing, because this can be so easily prevented.
I mean, that’s a very unexplained reason for wanting it banned, please elaborate?
One final question, how does this affect games like Plates of Fate: Remastered where gambling isn’t done with chips but just a normal currency, and there’s gambling mechanics in which portions don’t represent actual gambling (i.e. a minesweeper minigame where it’s gambling in definition but doesn’t represent it visually). This description is sorta vague and I don’t know how to interpret it.
There are lots of games out there with such depictions, they’re still up (ex. Blood Engine, which has a pretty gruesome icon I gotta say)
I would assume so, because it is still a romantic theme and even now you cant have any romantic themes or references
Nintendo games generally require a monetary investment for purchasing the game, and they are designed to run on specific gaming consoles with dedicated hardware. On the other hand, mobile phones serve multiple purposes and a child can get their hands on their parent’s or sibling’s phones they wouldn’t need their own device to view this content. Roblox, in my understanding, can be accessed on various platforms that children typically have access to, and many of the Experiences on the platform are free.
While it is true that parents should take an active role in monitoring their children’s activities, filtering every content they come across can be challenging. and parents usually don’t have that much time so they require a level of trust in the platform where the content is being accessed, so parents don’t have to spend excessive amounts of time constantly monitoring their children’s activities.
Naturally this will be the case as kids see all the bright colours and a new pet or whatever on the thumbnail every week and get really excited. Plus the whole stolen bank cards thing.
13+ isn’t too bad in terms of money, but usually it’s the age band that uses its own pocket-money so naturally it’ll have lower monetisation.
38%? That seems unrealistically high.
Since it’s plain “Romantic themes” i assume this is the case, which sucks, but i hope i can at least get an official confirmation it’s not
Yeah, I don’t see an incentive to create a 17+ game, it seems like a pretty unprofitable corner to target, unless you’re doing it for fun… Which I highly doubt…
Yes high for 5 year old’s pretending to be over 17, like he said I would like to the the percentage of verified 17+ users
i don’t think you read the whole thing through lol, the intended way to use romance is restricted purely to the experience, like if fictional characters in your game have a relationship for the story’s sake
I’d assume the verified 17+ users is minute; probably something under 5%.
Romantic is an adult topic that can only be resolved by 18+ players, 17+ players are still children, so it’s inappropriate, I think so
I can’t see many people doing it for fun when it’s only slightly more relaxed than 13+. It’s far too limited for what is virtually young-adulthood. If they were that concerned about 17 year olds still being minors, they should’ve just done it 18+ like every off-platform game age-rating.
Yet, the age for consent in most places is 14, 16 and 18; it is very common in real life for under 13s to develop feelings. I literally see no point in trying to “safeguard” 17 year olds from romance.
Edit: That’s just romance, not even physically speaking. That’s just the theme of it.
Great update! Waiting for less chat filtering though, even if I’m not going to be able to make a 17+ experience until Roblox adds a new verification method, it’s still nice to see that we’re finally getting more freedom.
Though I want to ask this, what is prohibited and not prohibited about romance in 17+ games?
I mostly like this, but at the same time, the age verification requirements are annoying, though at least they kinda make sense this time. As a dev who is 16 (and even if I were 17+ there’s no way in hell I’m giving Roblox my government ID, that’s just a stupid idea), I find this annoying.
If this affects pre-existing experiences, and locks younger devs out of certain development groups, that’s a problem. This can also greatly harm experiences with content that would now be classified as 17+, as their player counts would be greatly reduced.
This is a good idea executed poorly. Remove the age restriction, and just do what most things do, having the age rating be a SUGGESTION, not a requirement.
My only complaint is that Roblox is cracking down a little bit more harshly on romantic content than I previously had anticipated it would. Other than that though…
Shouldn’t there be another switch added here now for ID-verified users, of which I am one? Asking because, well…there isn’t…
Jokes aside thanks for finally releasing info on this. W update.
