Creating a 3d mask (sorry if this is the wrong term)

I want to create a building animation where the bottom of the model is fabricated, and it slowly continues up. However, I still want to be able to see through the top until it is constructed.
Visual representation:


Green: Background
Lime: View of background through the model
Red: Model
I’m aware of viewports, but I don’t know how to position the camera. I also don’t know how viewports inside of viewports interact, or how to replicate changes in the real workspace to the viewport.

You could tween the parts transparency and position at the same time to make a cool effect
