Would creating a group to own gamepasses for a non-group game be a good strategy? Or not? Thoughts? Suggestions? Reasoning?
I think it would be possible if you enabled 3rd party purchases in the user-owned game.
I suppose you’d have to create a ‘dummy’ group game to create the passes. Is this something that is commonly done?
I thought it might be a way to get some funds into a group account and have added flexibility with the funds since I didn’t create my game in a group and you can’t transfer the game.
Actually, you CAN transfer the game (not visits and likes and favorites and all).
Just make a place in your group, and publish the game on your account to that place!
Typically no. You want to try to keep all your related assets in one place and that includes any monetisation routes since the existing ones are all mostly already tied to your place. Additionally, the game store is as much a good place to display purchasables as an in-game store.
This is not a common practice. If a developer needs a group, they will typically abandon the place’s history and transfer the whole game or leave it on the profile or group it was originally made on. It’s possible to proxy a group for game passes but not really worth doing. If you asked me personally, I’d just call it annoying to have to manage another place just for game passes.
What you’ll want to do here is focus on the problem rather than a potential solution and it’s that you can’t transfer your place off your profile to your group. There are a few feature requests about transferring games between groups and profiles that you could support.
