Creating the "Roblox Stock Exchange": Would This Be Allowed?

I’ve have done it before, I did not make it public and then deleted that game for security reasons

we do have the power to change things. this is not a totalitarian system and if enough noise is made, i trust roblox to change those things.

it doesn’t matter what you’re saying about ToS. “laws” in your way don’t mean that you should stop because of them. protests exist for a reason. moreover, protests on roblox are extremely common. noise about issues anywhere you go is common. the dev forum, yt, etc.

sometimes i don’t wanna follow ToS because of issues relating to the moderation bots, forcing me to create loopholes for the sake of my account remaining existent.

but hey if you wanna follow literally every single law, then this should be allowed
like @aldiniLua said, the ToS states

  • Do not permit or enable the selling or trading of random virtual items obtained in your game(s) or experience(s), for Robux, real currency or anything of value off the Roblox platform.

shares are not random virtual items

This rule just states that you can not allow players to sell random virtual items for Robux or USD or digital currency, etc.

Yes, and other rules in ToS block gambling, that one rule may not block gambling however others do, such as:

  • Do not implement any gambling or casino style games that involve real money in any way. This includes Robux, as Robux can be purchased for real money. Games and experiences should also be fair and not be skewed in the developer’s favor .

If you think this is not gambling, many sources that I’ve seen state gambling as any sort of luck game that you can get nothing from.

And if you protest, they can just terminate your account…

And this is your decision that puts your account at risk, you should never suggest someone to break ToS as if you do and they get terminated, then you are responsible for their termination. :grimacing:

quote the rest of my line, then make it seem like i’m wrongly not abiding the ToS.
furthermore, PUTTING SOMEONE ELSE’S BLAME ON ME. that’s ridiculous to say, i’m not responsible for others’ actions no matter my opinion and how much they feel influenced by it. its them who takes the final action at the end of the day, and its shameful to suggest i’m now responsible for that. moreover, this is just a small dev forum thread, doubt many will see it to start. most people on here have a brain here anyways (13+)

we all know roblox mod bots are trash, and thats why i wanna do ridiculous things (nothing outrageous, but given how things should be, its dumb but necessary to do it) to stop things affecting my main account.

???

protesting is so common! you’re telling me random guys on twitter are now gonna be banned for replying to an official roblox tweet with “bad update!!1! YoUR TrAsH” now???
i don’t see that happening, protests are inevitable.

as fair as roblox wanna be, i don’t think its illegal for them at all to just go ahead and start slapping people with a ban hammer for no reason.

if you just take mm2 for example, they don’t state the odds.

But you can make out the odds of the final rarity by taking 100 and then subtracting all the other percentages.

This wouldn’t work because there’s no value behind each “stock.” If I buy x amount of shares for ticket $ABC, that means I own a portion of that company.

In this post you mention just selling stock with no backing at all. That would not work because you’re assigning your own value to the “stock” that you’re advertising. It’s like how awhile ago the USA used gold to back their currency, tying so much gold per dollar. We don’t do this anymore because we all agree (thanks to the government) that our money has an arbitrary value based on what we exchange it for. This is how your stocks would work. An arbitrary value that has no backing, we just agree that is has value of some sort. Most of us will agree that it has 0 value.

Are you going to work on this idea or is it just you know, an idea?

Going off of what you said…

This type of thing would need to have ROBLOX backing, as the technology for this only exists in things such as limited items (a dynamic quite similar to this). It definitely is a possibility, and would be interesting to see if some studios publicize themselves in order to have shareholders. I am sure some studios would do it as a form of investment and would make it much easier for tiny studios to grow without having to resort to third part methods to get funding.

On the gambling part… IF the player, once buying a share, owns a portion of the studio/company with legitimate backing from the studio/company in question, then it would not be considered gambling as it the player would actually be given what they are promised, and what they can see in a validated spreadsheet (again, would take official ROBLOX backing). As Investopedia puts it:

“Investing is the act of committing capital to an asset like a stock, with the expectation of generating income or profit. Gambling, on the other hand, is wagering money on an uncertain outcome, that statistically is likely to be negative. A gambler owns nothing, while an investor owns a share of the underlying company”

Here is the downside, and probably why there has been no ROBLOX backing for it:

Say a studio/company does decide to allow themselves to go public, and people start buying stocks. Let’s say for example someone buys 51% of the stock… Who is to say that this studio will actually follow through with granting ownership to the new owner? It simply is not possible for ROBLOX to regulate that, as many studios use third party applications such as Discord, Twitter, and other brands. ROBLOX has no jurisdiction to transfer ownership of all products to the rightful owner (in which in the case of public companies, would be given to the top shareholder).

I may have expanded the idea a bit out of its territory, but for the sake of making this possible, I am afraid the only legitimate way to do it is what I have stated thus far.
