Hello reader and fellow developer! I wanted to share my most recent build that I’ve made as a post, hoping to provide a recent post for my building/modeling resume, gain creative feedback, and game suggestions.
At it’s current state, it’s pretty bare bones; to the likening of a hangout place—which is not what I want the game to be at all. It’s meant to be a demo of the art style I’ll use to create a dungeon crawler when I an get enough team members to create more items for the game, as well as scripters for the weapon systems, enemy AI creation, and dungeon generation! Right now, you can pick up cups and sit in chairs by interacting with them by pressing F (press J to force stand). Later on I plan on implementing food that you can buy from adventuring and of the sort until I can publish the actual game.
Looks amazing so far, the atmosphere is great, the warm lighting in the tavern gives a really cozy feel. The layout also felt really cohesive and realistic like it was really lived in, did you use any specific references while building it? Visually it’s already quite polished, I don’t have much feedback other than maybe increasing the ambient particles, adding dust motes near the firelight and windows along with some sun rays.
Are you planning to do more with the outside area? The nature models outside don’t quite match the style of the inside, the trees and bushes could be replaced with more realistic models like the ones used inside. The day/night cycle is a cool feature, try playing around with the lighting to add contrast between time of day or just keeping it at sunset to match the cozy warm tones inside.
The guitar player is a nice touch and helps set the mood, you could add a few more sound effects to bring the space to life. Things like the fireplace crackling, torch flickers, wood creaking, some wind drafts or even some muffled conversations would add to the atmosphere. Even though there aren’t currently any NPCs around, ambient conversations would make the tavern feel more alive. The ambient nature sounds and night sounds are also nice but felt a bit quiet, I couldn’t really hear it unless I was really listening for it.Turning it up a little would help with immersion. I would also recommend checking out some tavern ambience videos, they’re goodfor getting some ideas.
To make the tavern feel more unique while linking to the dungeon crawler theme, try to add in some more worldbuilding. The ‘Serricar’ head mount is a really cool detail but it did take me a while to notice. I like the idea, some more artifacts and creatures littered around possibly with some descriptions would be great.
The labyrinth also looks awesome and its colours contrast with the tavern nicely. Maybe add some low lying ground fog and some other VFX to make it feel more mysterious.
Overall this is a really great showcase, looking forward to seeing where it goes!
This game and showcase looks INSANELY GOOD AND REALISTIC! Excellent job on it! How long did this take to create? Will you make more showcases? I rate this 10/10!
