Do I need to ask permission(or just credit them) of the creator of the asset (such as Sound, Meshes, Models, etc…), or can I just “Buy” the asset it so it is in my inventory, and use it in my game however I like, or can you only use some assets for games you don’t earn any money/Robux in? Thank you for your help!
If this is in the wrong category please correct me, so I can change it to the right one, I wasn’t sure what category this belongs in.
When creators put something for free in the toolbox, they are saying you can use it without credit, for free, it is now “open source”. You can totally use anything in the toolbox for your game. You can choose to give credit, or not.
Yep, if anything is open source you can earn money off of it.
Some scripts or modules will ask you for credit, and in full truth, speaking facts and not morally, you don’t have to.
Just saying, You should not use free models, heres why:
One, they can prompt the player to purchase/get the free model, I have seen that in games:
Would you like to buy Chair for free?
Two, viruses. Free models can give your game viruses. This is not good and you do not want your game to have a virus in it.
Three, your game will not become as popular. Taking sounds is 100% fine (As long as its not copyright bypassing), but some people will know that you are using free models, and in my mind I do not use them because they are quite easy to see if there is a free model. If everything you made is eh, but this one model is REALLY good, they will know you did not make it, judging by the average build quality of the other builds.
No, models that are in the toolbox are public domain which means anyone is allowed to take them. Models that are added in the toolbox are free to use if any developer creates a few assets and put them in the toolbox for ‘free’, you could use it without asking for permission or crediting the creator of that specific asset.
The creator of that sound or model made it free for users to take and use, as it makes that model (open source). Using models is there for users to use them, if you add models within your project, it will help you learn how to build off of them to incorporate them into your own version. These questions have been touched on in previous threads.
If a song is copyrighted, and it has nothing done to it(Most roblox songs, have a sound/pitch diff so it does not get copyrighted), You will not get ‘taken down’, but probably that song, not your game. Its not really your fault if you did not know if it was a copy or not either. So it does not exactly matter.
i know this is an old topic, but I just wanted to say, you can use any model freely. You do not have to credit the person. Why else would they put the model? So you can use it. Hope this helps! Just be careful that some assets may be injected with a virus but its not that often so you shouldnt really be weary of it.
