Overall, being a newbie renderer myself, there’s not much to criticize unless I look at the GFX at an art direction. Overall, I see a consistent issue of bland lighting and lack of texture within all of these (primarily within props and flooring of the last one). The characters have a really nice high quality feel of their render, but overall, the lighting could use some work in Photoshop or After Effects.
Summary: The render portion looks complete, though the overall touch-up portion is a little bit lacking. A really great job on these renders and it is better than what I can do any day, though you asked for criticism, so I am giving my honest take on it.
Like Different says, there is not much texture and it looks a bit bland overall. I am also a beginner GFXer, so I do not know as much as the experts would. I would suggest using a range of backgrounds and lightings, and you might wanna have softer shadows for the last pic. Overall, this is pretty good! My favorite would have to be the Riddler one.
Overall, they are really good. I can tell a lot of effort was put into these. There are a few things I would change though, like the Figh Poster where the letters are really, really close to the bottom box and how their is a random green glow in the scp image. Somethings are hard to make out too; in the last image I can’t tell if that blue in the background is a wall or water. What is the main focus in the last image? If it’s the guy in yellow, then don’t put him in the corner of the image with this bright light covering everywhere else. My suggestion is just to play around with lighting and study values. Anyways, side note, the evil demon fish guy is my favorite.
Thank you, in the last image its suppose to represent “SCP 3008” I am going to do some touch ups to that image. Also for the wall problem how do you suppose I fix it, maybe a painting or some more shadows?
Making art is really just a learning experiment, try what you think looks good! Maybe add more shadow to it or adjust the lighting.
Definitely pretty good renders/GFXs however, there are some issues I see with the lighting.
The first photo shows a somewhat orangey/sunset/sunrise feel to it or western feel which is pretty cool however. The shine seems a little out of place in my opinion, there is no rim lighting or shadow to define them from the background alot. The composition is a little lack luster, aiming the camera below them and pointing up will make it more enticing in my opinion.
Second photo with the guy holding a sword with flames is a pretty good one as well, orange for the lavay and hot feel. However, some effects don’t fit like the lightning. Although it looks good, the issue is with the current composition and lighting, the lightning should have a red glow on the arms.
Heres an example I did for somebody that uses effects that correspond with the lighting/effects:
You can see the other glow on his arms corrosponding to the fire, the orange lights on the ground reflecting off, and the fireballs lighting up his hands.
The question boi guy (thats what I like to call him ) has nice emmision/glow effects though the posing could be more exaggerated for intense feel. Change the camera view to have a tilt, add more expression to the way he is holding it, etc.
Storm trooper boi looks nice but has really odd lighting, it feels/looks a little flat. Darker more contrasty shadows will make it stand out more. Posing and the way he holds the gun should be more exaggerated as well.
Person in the dark with vision goggles and walking in what seems to be a hazmat suit of some sort is done pretty well however, composition is very important. Add debris to the ground, junk, etc. Have the person hold the gun as they’re scared or looking around worringly. Have the head tilt in a random direction. Add a green spotlight, green emisson material, and dust particles on the vision goggles for added effects.
Last render looks nice however, shadows seem a little too straight, like 90 in the way they’re running straight. Tilt the sun a little, and make the running more exaggerated. Also is the cop holding the yellow guy’s neck or is it the other way around? Both their legs are up int he air.
TL:DR
Exagerate poses for easier readability, mess things up on purpose (nothing is ever perfect), add lighting in correct places, etc.
Another one for examples if you like:
Really great, although I have some things Id change.
1st image = The JFL 4 tag is distracting and in the way, I recommend moving it or removing it as a whole
2nd image = The fire in the background is low quality and ruins the vibe
3rd image = The image in backwards (I could tell from the question marks)
4th image = The watermark is distracting, and the image as a whole is very pixelated
5th image = Pretty good, although the green mist / fog in front of the character’s face is a bit distracting
Final image = The sand and water could use some textures to ground them a bit, and the shadows are very dark
Other than that, amazing job, and keep up the great work
