Critique my second commissioned build :D

I made this zeppelin for @AlphaTesting for his game! They requested this build to be in the old Roblox style. This isn’t my full building skill. My client wanted me to build in the old Roblox style, so I had to take away some detail.

Great design you have shown here! One major flaw I will have to note though is that all the blocks have a bland, plastic texture that isn’t appealing to many, including myself. If you can adjust the texture accordingly, this would be a perfect design! :slight_smile:

I like the old style that you’re going with in this build, because it gives me nostalgia. But to be honest, there’s too many studs, I would try to remove some studs either on the windows or roof. But, even with all of that! This is still good!

As I said, my client wanted the build in the older Roblox style, meaning plastic was the only texture I could use. Thanks for the feedback though!

@antojensob
I will defiantly remove some studs around the build! Thanks for the feedback!

@sou_p and @V0SSH
Thank you for the kind words. My client was very happy about it. :sunglasses:

@BodhiStirling
The build was intended to have the older Roblox vibe to it.

@ImTheBuildGuy

I’ll make sure to change this!

That annoyed me as well! I will defiantly change that first!

I think you’ve captured the classic style very well. I’m sure your client will be happy with that - very nice job.

Okay, this just…
Old roblox builds aren’t filled head to toe with studs. Lay off a bit on the studs, classic roblox bricks have studs on top, inlets on the bottom, not studs every side.

I like the use of Glue, that helps with accuracy to old roblox builds.

Some other things is that not all the studs fit on, they cut off, which kind of annoys me. When making builds based off classic roblox, I set my Move to 0.5 or 1.

Don’t mind him he’s just going around commenting mean stuff on build showcases for no reason.

No worries, I find this pretty amusing.

Did someone say “Zeppelin”?

Well, the model looks overall nice, and fits quite well with the request. Good job!

But one important thing to note is the gear - I think both wheels should be bigger and aligned so the airship doesn’t smash its nose on the ground while attempting to land. The fins could have a more complex shape too, like 1 or 2 more sides, although the style is nice.

There’s a high contrast between the gas envelope and the gondola, the fins and the engines. That’s not bad, but if you decided to include SpecialMesh objects (which are as old as time, so it’s fine to use them in retro builds) I believe it would make sense to add them to the gear as well, or to change their Shape property to Cylinder.

As others said, misaligned parts with studs didn’t look good in the past. Just FYI, depending on their FormFactor, parts could only be resized to multiples of 1 stud along their X/Z axes and 1 (symmetric), 1.2 (brick) or 0.4 (plate) vertically. Of course, “old” is subjective and could refer to eg 2018, sigh. In my opinion, it looks good as it is - studs are centered and hardly ever cut out in the edges.

For extra retro vives, you could use more surface types, especially in the interior: universal, inlets, hinge, motor or glue. For glue you would need to look up the original texture; it was often used to represent liquids or fabrics. Hinges and motors (or even Hole object) can be recreated with cylinders, and they could serve as buttons for the control room.

Hope this helps for some final touches. Again, you did a nice job with this blimp zeppelin!

This was one thing that was bugging me a lot, I guess I’m committed to fixing it now that someone brought it up!
