This makes a lot of CSG parts impossible, for example, this part:
None of the parts are aligned on the grid, so it errors 100% of the time.
It would be very nice to either: revert to global axis or add a separate union button that aligns to global axis.
EDIT: a current workaround for those suffering from this problem is to union a negative part along with all the other parts. Make sure the negative part is the first part you select though.
Here we have two identical pieces that will turn into a roof frame.
One will have one of the off-axis parts selected first
The other will have an on-axis part selected first
Here is the outcome:
I find it very helpful that even with this new behavior, the local axis is determined by the first part selected even if that part does not affect the CSG part whatsoever, it saved me a LOT of frustration.
I’ll get a file up of the problem union shortly so you can test it.
EDIT: the union that was having problems stopped having problems, but the off-axis thing still remains.
EDIT EDIT: I actually realized the behavior is alright now that I figured out how to stop it for tricky unions like that curved roof.
I don’t know if this is related to the update, but I did notice this:
Unioning both of them to that part at once results in normal results, but if I union them individually with the part there’s a (seam?) in the final union.
Not sure if this is relevant but I CSG’d my characters and all the unions were facing backwards (0, 0, 1). It works just fine with my rig, but the truth is going to haunt me. I’ve tried flipping around, decomposing and re-unioning but it doesn’t solve it It’s not a big deal, but I wouldn’t mind being able to change the union’s direction/origin
