Ctrl+W is Alt+F4 but for tabs. In Studio, pressing Ctrl+W will normally prompt the user with “Hey, you have unsaved changes. Do you want to save/not/cancel?”, but this prompt is nonexistent in Team Create games (since they autosave to the cloud). This means that if I’m holding Ctrl to select multiple parts and then press W to move my camera forward, Team Create immediately closes and I have to re-open it.
It might be nice for ctrl+w to only work in the script editor. I don’t see particularly useful for closing place tabs.
I have accidentally done this a few times doing what you described.
I’d use the scroll wheel instead
Maybe they can add a confirmation, would you like to close
Do people actually use CTRL-W? Every few months we see threads pop up complaining about accidental pressing.
Sounds like it should just be removed entirely…
Can’t speak for everyone, but Ctrl+W has little use w/ the viewport. Both in Team Create editing and in Play Solo testing, Ctrl+W interferes with my workflow.
I actually rely on it quite often, so I’d rather that they just make it a customizable keyboard shortcut with a different default mapping.
Did you mean you use it often? Or is there a reason you rely on it instead of the X button?
But I 100% agree, shortcut mapping is the best of both worlds here.
I never picked up the habit of using it in studio, but I use it in browsers all the time.
I use it often, mainly because I’ve already memorized the tab shortcuts in chrome (Ctrl+W, Ctrl+T, etc.). The more of those I can use in Studio as well, the better.
Can’t scroll in easily enough to work on details, WASD and SHIFT gives much more control.
It’d be nice if we could disable such shortcuts (and other shortcuts too) completely in Studio. Made me lose a lot of progress.
Really annoying because it also does this in Play Solo, please fix. I have a hotkey bound to Ctrl and this keeps happening and wastes a lot of time.
I just barely lost all of my scripting progress for the last hour on Team Create because of this (no script recovery or autosaves).
The sad part was that I was trying to save my scripting progress by pressing “Ctrl+W” on my scripting tabs.
We just enabled a change that should solve this. Ctrl+W no longer does anything for the place tab, so whether it’s by accident or a common keybind in play solo, nothing will happen. Ctrl+W will close any other tab (e.g. script, object browser). To close the current file with a keybind, you can use Ctrl+F4 which will close the place regardless of which tab you’re on.
