If someone wants to really use a playerlist for bad purposes, they will probably make it themselves if they can’t find a resource.
There are many custom playerlist resources, so this would hurt normal people more than people with bad intentions.
the point is that this one is very very accurate to the official Roblox playerlist, so the custom players (bots - but they could easily look not like bots) are more easily believed than a custom leaderboard with a different style.
because of that, it’s more dangerous to be public, as scam games would look even more convincing, potentially - and there aren’t many genuine use cases for this
Sure, but anyone can create a player list that looks identical to the official one.
Nowadays, if you go into scam games, you will see they aren’t like how they used to be. They are these Squid Game glass bridge or whatever games that just farm Premium Payouts.
In my opinion, I don’t think this is a good reason.
If this went open-source, here are some benefits I could come up with quickly.

Benefits of open-source

Customize looks of player list very easily because it is in PlayerGui

Allows for colours, tags, images, etc in the player list. Allows custom buttons when clicked on a player which could be used for moderation. All benefits of a custom player list.
Things like this can save a bit of time.
I didn’t even mention the curious people that would love experimenting with it!
While there already are player list resources, if I was someone that wanted to customize my player list fast, I would probably go for this one. It is just like the Roblox one but in PlayerGui, meaning I can customize it however I’d like.
I get those reasons, and the customisation reason is a pretty good one. You say anyone can do this, but it is actually fairly difficult - I’ve tried to recreate the leaderboard myself with a lot of pains on the way, since Roblox don’t make it too easy. It’d be nice if it was more easy to customise for sure, but this is ultimately down to OP. A lot of scam games are also fairly poorly made - this would be making it easier for them to be higher quality and more believable, so I definitely understand not wanting to make it public.
I suspect that may also be partly the reason why Roblox haven’t made it easier to add fake players too?
i’ve decided not to open source it, however, if someone does want to use this in his project, he can dm me the reasons why he needs this and if its valid i might send him the modules
Because for an average player it’s hard to distinguish and can easily fall victim. There is a slight difference I see that being the X icon is a bit too low and AFAIK there was a white bar separating the X and the rest of the player list.
It’s very small but can be noticed if you are attentive.
Scam games have always used fake playerlists back when it was much easier to fake - have we all forgotten pressing ESC shows the real amount of players?
