I am not being able to apply decals, textures, etc. directly to the object where i want the decal to be.
Usually, when I clicked the decal that i wanted to use in the toolbox, it could be directly applied to the surface of the part, mesh, etc. by clicking again on the part I want it on.
Four hours ago im not being able to do this, since the decal “spawns” directly in the workspace itself, and inside a game with lots of objects, parts and models it is quite difficult to find the part where you want to “slap” the decal.
To get around this, I have been dragging the decal from toolbox over to the part to have it insert into the part as a child and it appears on the face of the part the cursor is touching so long as I do not let up the mouse button. Though clicking to insert instead of dragging to insert should be applying the decal to the selected part but thats not always the case as I too sometimes have the decal insert under workspace. (or even the terrain if my dragging failed but thats an error on my part.)
I’m having this problem too. It’s been happening for months yet I can’t find any documentation on it. This is all I have and the last update from Roblox was a year ago. This is honestly kind of hindering me and my projects, as I tend to use decals a lot.
I can confirm this is still happening again and hasn’t been fixed yet. A lot of people rely on decals, especially roleplaying games. (I want to thank the staff for fixing it the first time though.)
What’s the issue here, isn’t that the expected behavior? Click will insert the decal into whatever you have selected (or the Workspace if you have nothing selected) vs dragging will let you drag+drop it onto a surface.
This was really a bug and never intended behavior. It was only intended to do that when you copy-pasted a decal, not on click inserting from the toolbox.
Is there a reason that not being able to do this is problematic for your workflow? (The intended thing to do in this case is drag the decal out of the toolbox if you want to place one decal, or copy-paste and get the click to place behavior if you’re trying to place many copies of a decal/texture)
Wow, that’s interesting. I always thought it was a feature all these years.
I’m assuming it won’t be re-implemented (fixed?) then, so I guess I’ll have to get used to this way of doing things.
Thanks for the response!
Yeah, it’s not really clear from the user point of view that it was a bug, though from the way the code was written internally it was clearly unintended.
But more importantly it was also kind of clunky behavior: If you’re not trying to do the click-and-place behavior and just trying to insert the decal into what you have selected it’s kind of surprising and annoying behavior to suddenly have this object stuck to your mouse until you interact.
It now also matches the behavior of other types of content in the toolbox: Click just inserts, vs drag gives you placement options.
So, since there’s an equally effectively and more explicit way to do it (dragging it) that old behavior won’t be coming back.
