Deceptive UGC scamming players

It has been brought to my attention that public UGC has introduced scam items, uploading items that are clearly trying to trick and manipulate vulnerable players into buying fake versions of official items.

For example: This group, bypassed world

They are very clearly trying to sell items that appear to be animation packages, but they don’t work as such and are only intended to fool players that are looking for a cheap alternative to official animation packages.

This is just one of these groups trying to trick people into buying fake versions of official items, and it’s unfair that Roblox isn’t taking action against groups like this since this one in particular has been up for 5 months now.

This is just one of these groups, along with many others below that are trying to sell fake Korblox legs that do not work the same as the official package.

I hope something can be done, there are so many manipulative items advertising themselves as “addons” when they know they are trying to trick players into thinking they are the real thing.

It is quite literally impossible to have scam items such as these removed from the catalog. I kid you not, there is absolutely no way to have them moderated despite the multiple reporting options that Roblox provides you. This is pretty much the second largest catalog moderation flaw, with the first being this one (that was recently fixed):

The groups you mention, especially “bypassed world”, have been uploading scam after scam for months now with no moderation actions being applied other than one or two of their items being deleted here and there. Moderators need to be re-trained on how to identify these scam items when reported—right now, they deny absolutely every report, no matter how much detail is given about the item.

Thank you so much for bringing this to light. It’s especially a massive problem with headless copies like this one for example. There are hundreds if not thousands of this type of item, and hopefully Roblox wakes up to the immense scale of the scamming happening here.

If Roblox wants the UGC program to retain any credibility then they’re going to have to be much more proactive at dealing with blatant scams before the “creators” behind them can cash out the Robux.

ETA: The one linked in the reply has been up for nearly two years without being deleted/refunded. Wow.

Thanks very much for your attention to these moderation flaws. It’s so nice to see these finally being addressed–maybe a bug report was all that was needed :slightly_smiling_face:

I remember when there was still ads. There was this fake UGC game where you can purchase “UGC” and the “UGC” was actually game passes.

Oh man, I don’t get what drives people to be scammers.

Thank you again for the report. We are rolling out better scam detection across the board and addressing this issue. There is a mix of both human and automation and is being rolled out based on the priority. We are also working on deterring groups that are creating these items.

With this - I’ll dedupe this as a feature request.

The specific items and the groups reported above have been handled based on our current processes; Want to acknowledge the noticeable gap while we work to improve the overall situation.

Thank you for addressing this. I hope one day moderators are made aware that these items are scams and can take them down accordingly, whether “one day” is sooner or later. Appreciate the response here nonetheless :slightly_smiling_face:

I wanted to ask whether the upcoming change will affect dynamic heads with the name “Headless.” I recently uploaded multiple dynamic heads under this name from my new upload account—not because I intended to mislead anyone, but simply to ensure that my creations reach the right target audience.

Essentially, I invert the face in Blender, giving the head an appearance that makes it seem invisible. Because of this unique design, I felt that the name “Headless” was appropriate, as it helps differentiate these heads from others and better conveys the intended aesthetic. However, the head itself is still present—it’s just styled in a way that creates an illusion of being headless.

I’m reaching out to clarify whether this change will impact those bundles, as they generate a significant portion of my earnings. My intention is not to mislead users, but rather to offer a design that appeals to a specific audience. I would appreciate any clarification on this matter.

@PseudoRNG3816 I understand that you are still working to deter bad actors creating deceptive items, but you still haven’t done much about the current items listed that are infecting the catalog.

These items are making thousands of real dollars by deceiving kids who believe they are real Roblox items, and kids who try to contact support to get their robux back from buying these items are likely to be rejected and ignored. This is a big issue that has been going on for months and most of these are going as far as to reach the front page of top selling items in all of UGC, something really needs to be done.

If moderation was applied to these groups these items should be deleted and groups associated should be locked, as the same groups continue to upload these items that violate TOS.
