Deep in the Woods - A Horror Game

Hey DevForum. Before I start, sorry for any unusual format, etc. I’m still semi-new to the Forum and this is my first topic/post. Thanks!

I starting making a horror game yesterday, and was wanting some feedback on it. My main inspiration for the game is the game “Siren Head” (Roblox version link at the bottom). I’m looking for feedback on the diner currently in-game, along with the overall atmosphere.

The Lore: I’m still working on how to add the actual lore in-game. Since I haven’t been able to add it yet, here it is for those are interested:
"It’s a hot night in July 1970 when the detective (The player) receives the call to come to a recent crime scene. This particular night is thick with fog, and the area is a thickly wooded hillside, making it hard to search for clues. While searching you feel as if something is watching. You ignore it, mistake on your end.

The Diner: The style I’m going for with this build is a 1950’s styled diner in a thickly wooded area. I already know I need to lower the lighting but was unable to. The diner is the first building you see once you spawn, and the NPC inside will end up acting in an uncooperative manner, building suspicion of the diner and what potential evidence it may hold, when the game is finished it will be one of the two main buildings.

Eventually, there will be an antagonist, probably something similar to an urban legend. As I said earlier, I started this game 2 days ago, and have around 2-6 hours on it. The overall atmosphere is simply supposed to be unsettling, and hopefully eerie at some point. Similar to other games, there will be multiple endings, all put an end to the story, but only one is the truth.

The lore for your game is great already! Sounds like something you would hear out of a movie! Can’t wait to check out your game soon!

So, when you first enter the game your are automaticaly hit with a moderen roblox game outside until you enter the dinner. I suggest making either both realistic or the classic roblox style. I don’t feel that “spooked” when I first join for a horror game. Maybe lower a few things in lighting and posibly change to shadowmap f=if you are going for more realism. The lore so far is great for a start. The dinner itself feels very empty in parts and then clunky in others. Overall, it seems like you can do so much with this game.

I felt that the diner had a blocky design. The exterior had no round edges or interesting shapes either than the cylinder support beams. Indoors, the room leading to the back had no door frame, and the seats had no curves or anything other than an overall rectangle shape. Whenever I see 60’s diner, I imagine curvy designs, basically. The car is just a mesh of some 2000’s car, so maybe replace it with a mesh of an older car or something.

I felt like it was a good start, though, but make the fog a soft blue/purple to really make a dark vibe. :+1:

I really like the setting around the character and the radio in the car is a feature I like the most! The game is a bit too quiet and some small things can be fixed like the walking sounds and removing the jump option completely but I look forward to what you are planning to do with this in future updates!

I agree completely with TheMangleWolf. The exterior of the game is very visually rich, with beautiful lighting, judging from the screenshots. The interior of the diner could do with a bit of work, lighting wise, but this is great work so far! I imagine it could end up much like the ‘Camping’ series, keep up the strong effort!
