Deer mount for RPG game

Myself and Charles360720 have been making various mounts for my upcoming RPG game, Dungeoneer. Here’s what we’ve made! I’d love some feedback, specifically on the shape of the head.

It was hard to get it looking good whilst having a movable jaw for animations. All parts of this are rigged too, and animations are coming soon.

Looks spot on.

Deer lord that’s detailed.

Very cool. I can feel like Thranduil on my elk.

I’ve always found animals exceptionally hard to build – but meshes/CSG certainly can make this easier.

I googled deer lord

But yeah, the form is really good. I think the back could stand to be arched down a bit, and the neck could be blended more with the body (the neck should usually just look like an extension of the torso)

Thanks for tagging me!

Head shape seems pretty good, ears would help balance it out. The skull also rounds slightly more at the top right before it gets to the eyesockets in real life, so maybe take that into consideration.
I also think the torso is just a little bit too thin, typically their torso goes down to just slightly above the first joints of their legs.

I do believe adding ears would be beneficial to the design as it makes it more lively and realistic.

Here's a kind of laggy gif of a deer affinity in an old project I was working on as an example.

Also the coloration seems a bit too plain, you could at least color the hooves and muzzle a bit better (in my opinion), but if that's what you think fits the style, then that works too!

Finally, the tail seems to resemble more of a moose's tail than that of normal deer as you currently have it. You could fix it by having it tilt downward more when idle/calm, but have it stand up (as well as the ears) when alert and/or moving. I recall some article describing whitetail deer's tails while moving as "white sails" or flags or something. If you just search online for videos of deer being deer, that should help.

Definetly a creative mount though! I kind of wish medieval-ish things used deer more as it seems rare to me. But part of that may be just because I really like deer, lol.

But all in all, it looks really good! Best wishes on your game!

oh deer, that looks good.

Thanks for that, I’ll definitely consider adding ears. Colouration isn’t final on this and we’re still yet to add some parts, but I will consider everything you’ve said here. Thanks!
