NOTES
Defend The Train’s very late in the season Summer Update is now out! We’ve been actively working on this update for the past few months and are glad it’s finally ready. We apologize for the lack of activity over the past few months as the Summer updates for the other games kept us very busy throughout the season. This one should be the only update in the rest of the ALPHA that had a super long production time. Documentation will be provided for a few changes and additions below!
Documentation
Boss Waves
The main focus of this update, Boss Waves introduce a new wave type to the game. Boss Waves will appear once every 10 waves and will scale in difficulty based on the amount of players and the difficulty chosen at the start of the game. These waves are meant to be a change of pace and an obstacle to overcome. Boss waves will last for about 4 minutes and can be cleared well before or within that time.
For our first addition, we’ve added in the Bandit Queen!
The Bandit Queen is the high-and-mighty leader of the Junkyard Bandits, a cutthroat gang of resourceful thieves notorious for mercilessly attacking anyone who steps foot in their territory. Said territory resides in the heart of the bandit-ravaged Ghost Town, and D.T.T Industries has precarious cargo that needs to be shipped right through their base. It’ll be your job to protect the goods from their dirty mitts.
Though I’d like to let players figure out how to fight the boss on their own, one note I would like to give is that aimlessly firing at the vehicle will not carry you throughout the fight - these bosses will have weaknesses you need to exploit to secure victory. We hope you find boss waves enjoyable as these are intended to be a permanent feature. If you have any feedback, be sure to let us know what you’d like to see more of in future fights or changes made!
Event
This part was not the main focus of the update though we still chose to add in a few Summer related things. Similar to previous events, this doesn’t feature much as the game is still in ALPHA. Two new tracks have been added that will award you with a badge and a Summer themed skin set (in the BETA) for completing them alive! Progress will not be recorded if you forced the track.
NOTE: At the time of writing the badge icons are currently not finished. For now, they’re using a blank icon. These will be filled out once their respective icons are finished.
Damaged Train Parts
A new change has been made to the train that mostly serves for visual purposes though does gain functionality later on. When a sector on the train hits under 400 health, smoke particles will start to appear on the part. This is meant to be an indicator that the part is getting low. Once a sector hits under 200 health, it will catch on fire until the part is destroyed. Touching the fire will burn you so be careful!
Mobile Automatics
Though not a perfect solution, we’ve improved the usage of automatic weapons for users using a mobile device or touchscreen. Before, users trying to move the camera in any way with an automatic weapon equipped would always fire their weapon. Our fix to this was to make the left & right sides of the screens a “safe zone” that will not trigger the weapon firing. This only was an issue on automatics therefore won’t apply to semi-auto weapons.
Like I said, this probably isn’t the best solution to this problem and will be looked into more if we find a more practical method.
Weapon Changes
For those wondering why we changed the names and firing sounds of the default weapons, they’re both pretty simple answers. A couple of us felt that the realistic weapon model names didn’t make much sense or have much of a place being in the game as Defend The Train isn’t intended to be very realistic as well as future weapons already having plans to follow a similar route with more unique names. For the sounds, I personally just felt like they didn’t have much of a “punch” and decided to change it to something that sounded a bit more powerful.
Vanessa
Vanessa is the Underboss of D.T.T Industries, just below the CEO, and serves as one of your higher-ups as a mercenary. She makes announcements to your crew and hands out special missions, making her first in-game appearance in this update as the announcer for incoming Special Waves as well as the newly added Boss Waves. Currently, the amount of dialog she has is pretty small and will be expanded upon in the future, alongside making more appearances during the BETA of the game.
