NOTES
This update mostly focuses on random miscellaneous changes we wanted to make to the game before we start our track submission catchup over these next few months. The next batch of updates for Defend The Train will start production after Battleboards receives it’s Winter update. Those who have completed the two event tracks will now be able to use the Christmas 2021 skin set which includes the Scrooge, Frosty, and Elf!

Logo Update
As announced last Summer, Defend The Train was going to receive an update to the default logo. This change is now live and has been changed on any in-game appearances alongside the thumbnails. There isn’t too much left to say about it, though do note that any remaining songs completed during ALPHA will still be using the original logo on it’s soundtrack uploads. Soundtrack uploads will use the new logo on any songs from BETA and onwards.
Sound Test
The Sound Test menu that was added into RBLXWare on Christmas has been ported over into Defend The Train! This functions the same way as it does there and can be accessed through the Settings menu. You can use this to freely listen to any sounds used in the game for whatever purpose this may serve you.
Performance Improvements
This update includes two changes to performance with a few more to come in the near future. Train part explosions have been improved upon (mostly applies to the Passenger train) to create less debris than before. To save on costs, when a part is destroyed only a quarter of them will be turned into debris with the other 3 quarters being instantly removed. Previously, this only applied to half of the parts.
More importantly, I’ve experimented with the performance of track movement itself which has been the largest bottleneck on performance since PRE-ALPHA. For this I’ve tested out switching off of using Roblox’s built in TweenService and instead opted to use my own version. After a handful of private & public tests with a varying amount of players it seems like this may have done the job with players reporting that active waves have been running better than the old version. I’ll be able to see if this actually holds up in any capacity within the next few days or weeks. If the new changes to track movement run worse than before for a majority of players then the change will be reverted back to the previous version and continued to be looked into.
Progress Report
What’s next? We still got the same goals for these next few months with those being to catch up on pending track submissions and performance improvements.
For performance improvements, what I plan on doing includes the following:
- Update vehicles to use the same updated system that the track movement now uses
- Tune up player & enemy bullet ignorelists to just use CollisionGroups over manually creating an ignorelist
- maybe some more i might be forgetting writing this lol
After a handful of this is completed we’ll be able to start production on some of the content in the BETA update!
