Documentation

This update notably includes a major overhaul to the Classic gamemode. Previously, this gamemode attempted to emulate the original 2011 version of Defend The Train by gombob, though this better resembled the very first Alpha build of our own version.

Many mechanics from the original game were still not carried over, so in turn the gamemode ended up being a worse version of Standard that sucked the fun out of the game. The gamemode has now been overhauled to include many more mechanics from the original game. These changes include:

Classic Weapon Stats
Our versions of the stock weapons are now replaced with a Classic variant exclusive to this gamemode. For the most part they’re the same, though there are a few stat differences from the 2011 version to our version. The differences include:

  • The Classic Assault Rifle features a much smaller clip size, slower fire rate, but much higher damage.
  • The Classic Shotgun is pretty much the same as ours though has two extra shots.
  • The Classic Pistol has a slightly slower firing speed but has an extra shot.

While these variants of course have balancing issues, they’re more faithful to how they were in the 2011 version of Defend The Train. Once again, these are exclusive to the Classic gamemode, but are available at the Shooting Range and in Armoury Circuit’s rotation as well.

Faithful Class Upgrade Menu
The standard weapon upgrades menu has been taken out and replaced by an exclusive class upgrade menu! In the original Defend The Train, classes as a whole were actually able to be upgraded rather than being able to individually buy upgrades for each weapon. This is now true in the updated Classic mode.

Upon purchasing a class upgrade, the class’ weapon stats will increase by a margin with each of the upgrade prices drastically increasing in price. They each go up to five ticks and are not able to be refunded.

No Player Deaths
That’s right, player deaths are outright removed in this gamemode! You can die as many times as you’d like, there is absolutely no punishment for doing so! In the original Defend The Train, the only game over condition was if the train blew up. With respawns being freely available, classes can be changed mid-wave and if you’d like you’re also able to change your equipped items.

Increased Enemy Damage & Health
Enemies did pack a bit more of a bunch in the original Defend The Train, so I’ve given a notable amount of bonus damage to enemies and increased the starting vehicle & enemy health. This by extension also does help games go by faster so this gamemode does not overstay it’s welcome.

Progress Report

What’s next?

While I wasn’t able to complete the Arcade game feature for this update, I figure I may as well explain what’s that about here as I do still wish to add this soon! The aarcade games are a planned addition to the break room that are mainly intended to be time killing highscore based minigames that can be played while waiting to respawn.

The characters featured in this concept art are three of the planned stars for these minigames! Our current minigame idea names are The Chef, Whacky Whacka, and Captain Superwings. In canon, these characters are meant to be contained within these minigames as the arcade games themselves are nothing more than a literal arcade game in the DTT world.

The Chef or Whacky Whacka is likely to be the first game, but more minigame additions will happen overtime as we come up with them. There is not to be any prizes for playing these nor will highscores be published onto a leaderboard as I don’t want to incentivize playing these over the game itself. They’re meant to be timewasters you can play while waiting and nothing more!

The next big addition that’s on our roadmap is the Campaign mode. I won’t fully detail what that’s about in this post again, but I’m looking to have that completed in the near future.
