Delete offending Bulletin Board posts/move them to a private topic

Currently, if forum admins close a rule-breaking Bulletin Board post (for example for having offsite links), while it is unlisted from the forum list itself, the link is still valid, so people coming from the main site are still able to view the topic. (I tested this while signed out and signed in.) This can be a problem if the post is closed for having multiple illegal offsite links, because people are still able to view and interact with them.

My proposed solution is to move them to a private topic (for example something similar to where off-topic and bump replies are moved to), or to delete them altogether. This prohibits normal Roblox users from viewing the bad Bulletin Board post.

Obligatory poll:

  • I agree there’s an issue and your solution(s) are the best way to solve it
  • I disagree there’s an issue
  • I agree there’s an issue, but there’s a better solution (please reply)

I checked the category and all I see is Roleplay groups and other stuff.

Can you give me an example thread by private messaging me?

You can’t see the bad posts because they’re unlisted.
This post is talking about direct links to those posts, since you can still view unlisted posts if you have the link, which could potentially expose people to bad content since you can link to the devforum from roblox.com

Hidden topics due to flagging automatically get deleted after 30 days, so that isn’t too much of an issue, however, I agree those topics should become inaccessible as well.

I have never seen an offending post on Bulletin Board. Can you please give an example of such post?

What exactly???

If you look at some topics from around 2019, you’ll see that some leaders have moved replies into a private topic titled “Off-topic and bump posts” which is in a private category.

I honestly think it depends on the content of the bulletin board topic and the link, if you link to say a Google form or something for applications, while it is not allowed, it isn’t really the end of the world.

I once flagged 2 topics in bulletin board that I was linked to for having Discord server invites, all that happened was the invite links were removed and any context related to the invite, that is probably the most that should happen.

You’re not suppose to be able to see unlisted posts (or bulletin board posts at all for that fact)

BB posts that seriously violate forum rules (e.g. NSFW, offsite links) should be deleted or corrected via editing; minor housekeeping violations do not warrant deletion. I’ve never seen this be an issue and I’m pretty sure this is already the procedure followed.

p.s. polls suck and kill reasonable discussion, they’re not obligatory at all.

I’m not talking about forum listing. If you have the link to a BB post in your Roblox game or group description and it is closed/unlisted, the link is still valid so anyone can view it (even under 13 users and signed out users)

I believe this is old procedure. Nowadays I’ve seen these types of posts closed and unlisted rather than be edited, but honestly this isn’t a bad solution either.

You have ignored the point of my post:

I did read that but your first sentence made it seem like you misunderstood.

They should just add proper long-form text/image changelogs to games and groups that can be linked to, then the Bulletin Board category can be deprecated entirely and deleted a year or two later.

I don’t personally think this is the best solution. Some people use Bulletin Board to post bug reports and feature requests so they can get mods to move them [though I’ve had trouble with a moving a feature request, apparently @Bug-Reports doesn’t deal with them and the member of DET I contacted said they don’t handle them anymore and referred me onto the profile above]. People also use it so they can post drafts of stuff [such as recruitment posts] so I don’t think that it should be removed entirely.

You aren’t using Bulletin Board right if its removal would affect you to this extent.

Bulletin Board has never been intended for drafting forum content. This was just a proxy method for Community Post Approval before we moved directly to having content sent to our group inbox. Posting feature requests and bug reports in bulletin is long outdated; you should be waiting for the appropriate measures to be in place for members to post those or DM an appropriate group with your content.

As for drafting, that’s what the post preview window is for. You can also edit your posts after you’ve made them and make mention that updates have been made if it’s relevant to know what those updates are (that being, if it affects the thread significantly - for Collaboration threads, if it can affect the details of the offer). Bulletin Board shouldn’t be used for drafting posts either.

Bulletin Board’s sole purpose has been for sharing information with your Roblox communities on the website. If proper tooling is added to share information with our communities, then there’s no precedent for Bulletin Board to continue existing.

I don’t personally draft in Bulletin Board [however I’ve seen others do it] and I am aware the post preview window saves drafts but if you want to make another post, you either have to publish or delete your existing draft.

That’s the wrong approach, you’re meant to DM your bug reports and feature requests AFAIK.

So wrong tool for the wrong job. All Bulletin Board is and ever will be is a makeshift replacement for the fact that Roblox took down the old Roblox forums without first implementing information boards for games/groups. That’s the reason Bulletin Board was created.
