Details of setting up a lobby room

I want to make a game, there are a few things I want to do, one of them is lobby, but there are a few things that confuse me. The thing that came to my mind was to build the lobby in a place that is not visible on the map. Is this right? Or should I create a separate map for the lobby and send people from that lobby to another location? Is such a thing possible? Or something else? Nothing else came to my mind other than these two ideas. Can you help me? How do people generally overcome this kind of situation? I can give an example from the game Doors. I want to set up a lobby like that, but it’s not about that.

and can you tell the difference between lobby and main menu

Both of what you thought of are possible. It only boils down to what you think would be more practical in your game. If you’ve played games like Apocalypse Rising, you’ll notice the ‘lobby’ is in a different game. If you’re thinking of having the character pick teams or loadout before he starts the game, then it’d be easier for many to just use the menu lobby one. If your game contains plenty of maps with different setups or you have the servers in consideration (like having the character able to join or invite his friends from other servers) then a game lobby will definitely keep those stuff centralized for you.
