Dev log: Unnamed Retro platforming thing

A while ago I made a post where I shared my unnamed retro platforming game.

Spiel

I’ve decided to at least make some posts regarding the game as I work on it. It’s a pretty on and off project right now as I don’t really have a clear vision of the future of it, all I know is this:

  • You are a flower
  • You have lost your petals
  • You must get them back

Hopefully by making these posts I can both advertise the game and refine the game according to player feedback.

Progress

Since my last post I’ve added animations and a new room to mess around in.
It really doesn’t sound like much as I’m writing it down now, but I lost the animations somewhere along the line and so I had to rewrite that code.
I plan to add mobile controls next so stay tuned.

With that being said,

And I’ll see you next time!

A little update:

  • Spikes
  • New texture for spawnpoint
  • Mobile controls (in beta bc I found a bug when dying)
  • Death animation
  • Admin Commands
  • New room utilizing spikes

Maybe not as little as I thought…
Anyway,

And see you next time!

Quick update:

  • Fixed respawn bug on mobile
  • Added checkpoint system
  • Moved exit door in second room to be more visible

But now, what do you want to see next?

  • Key doors
  • Challenge rooms
  • Map expansion
  • Enemies (I’m a little mixed on this one)
  • Other (leave a reply)

Update (not released):

  • Keys
  • Key Doors
  • Warp Doors (for map organization)
  • Working on map expansion

Also, I made a couple music demos and would like some feedback on them:

(The second one sounds better looped imo)

Update (this took a while):
For all those interested, I have not abandoned the project (at least, not yet) and have been trying to figure out a puzzle that would feel good for the mechanics at play, I have not figured one out yet, and need some help from you all.

I have made:

  • A plugin that will help with workflow
  • Jumping noises

The plugin took up the majority of the time, but is now at a state I’m happy with.

See you next devlog!

Long time since I’ve posted, but here’s what’s been going on:

  • Distracted with a side project
  • Entirely rewritten player controller (now using vectorforce, not linearvelocity)

Because of bugs and getting distracted, it has taken a while to get to this point, if you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them below.

Have a good new year!
