[Developer log #1] Week 1

Hello to any creators reading this, I’ve finally decided to commit to one project and finish it entirely before moving on to another.

You can skip to the start of the real dev log in [The Idea]

A little about me
  • I started Roblox Studio around early 2020
  • I have MOSTLY scripting knowlegde and less building knowledge, however when I have to build I try my best
  • I never finished a main project
  • I started Roblox in 2017
Why I decided to make this post.

Firstly and truthfully, the main reason I wanted to post dev logs is to promote my game while creating it. I’m not sure of many ways small or upcoming Roblox games can be promoted for free, as I currently do not have the funds for ads and I am currently unable to make a dev log series on youtube(which really works), so what I thought was my best option was to do a dev log on the forums.

Secondly, I wanted to have logs to inspire me and motivate me to finish the project. Me personally, I view forums and specifically other creators dev logs and creations for inspiration and it really works. When I see those posts, I think, “I can do that for myself.”, but in the end, I never do. Which is why I am now committing myself to completing this project and dev log series.

The Idea

I really like to play these weird obbys with twists, and one that is my favorite is obby but youre a bird. I find these agames to be simple but fun and engaging, which is one of the core features you need to have a successfull game.

So from my liking of the gameplay and the build style, I started to think of random animals and not just any animals, flying animals. Eventually, I settled on bats, and I did create a game, “obby but you’re a bat”, however, as usual, I lost motivation and quit.

Enough of me rambling, on a random day last week, I was laying in my bed and I’m not sure about the thought process, but eventually I was thinking about draculas and thought what if I was a dracula, I could turn into a bat and fly and avoid obstacles and enemies, and then BAM, why not make an obby with difficult obstacles so you HAVE to transform into a bat to fly over or avoid it.

What I've made so far
  • Starting area.
  • Badge list(I really don’t know why)
Build

Badge List

In the next dev log(hopefully)
  • At least one section of the obby completed
  • First iteration of transforming
  • First iteration of the main UI

I do have some unfortunate news, however, due to my exams starting next week, I will have to pause the development for 1-2 months. I do hope this gets traction while I am away

You have it set to private and others can’t test it.

Oh, I see you’re just starting… I was looking for the obby part

Yeah I only had time to start a lobby😅however I am starting the actual obby area so maybe by the end of today there would be the start of an obby

I also did make the transformation but disabled it as it was just a test, I will enable it back tho if you want to check it out
