Welcome back to our developer diaries! After a refreshing break, our team is back and energized, ready to delve into the intricate systems that govern the world of Society. Today’s focus is on the core of governance in our game: The Crown Menu and the intricate Laws that dictate the flow of society.
The Crown Menu is the nerve center for any player with aspirations of leadership in Society. It’s from here that you’ll be able to navigate the complex web of decisions and decrees that can elevate your kingdom to new heights or plunge it into the depths of turmoil.
-
Overview Tab: This is where you’ll find a summary of your kingdom’s current status. From the reigning Monarch to the appointed Elder Mage, each role is displayed with clarity, offering a snapshot of who holds the keys to power. The Overview also provides quick stats like “Conquered Territories” and “Days Survived” to track your kingdom’s expansion and longevity.
-
Economy Tab: Money makes the world go round, and in Society, it’s no different. This tab allows you to adjust taxation rates and bail prices, ensuring the kingdom’s coffers are never empty. The “Class Wages” section gives you the ability to directly influence the economy by setting the income for various classes from Peasants to Nobility. Resource management is also a click away, providing real-time updates on your stockpiles of food, iron, stone, and wood.
-
Politics Tab: The essence of your kingdom’s identity is shaped here. The Politics Tab is where you’ll enact or abolish laws that define the societal structure and day-to-day life of your subjects. The legitimacy bar tells you how much “legitimacy” you have toward your kingdom. Every time you enact a law, your meter will fall, and how many people approve of you will determine how fast that meter goes up/down. This is to prevent spamming 50 laws in 2 minutes. Laws range from peasant welfare to the legality of magic, each with a direct impact on how your kingdom functions. The ability to toggle between policies like “Free Healthcare” and “Serfdom” allows for dynamic strategy and gameplay.
We want to create a canvas, where you the player can draw whatever it is upon it. The rise, and fall dynasties, will occur.
Until next time, keep your swords sharp and your wits sharper. The throne awaits no one, and in Society
