[Devlog] - The Renovations Of 2022

Hello everyone!

Today is the last day of 2022 and I wanted to show off all of the Renovations I did this year for my games. Last year I made an promise to myself, to Renovate for all of my games so they all improve in quality, as I believe a quality experience is something that outshines the quantity and it shows that I care as an developer.

Throughout the Renovations you will see many changes related to Flooding Tower and mainly Subway Agents. There will also be design changes on the graphics design as I slowly gain more knowledge throughout the year.

  • The following Screenshots are ordered chronologically where the first image will take place before the next images.

Flooding Tower

During one of the first Renovations, the lobby was renovated to an much more stylized and blueish theme. With the stairs, which led up to the first section of the tower, being replaced with ladders it provided a lot more space to fit in more props and other details. The gray floor of the old lobby was replaced by a glass floor so players can see the flood rising from below. There is also there are new stairs decorated with lights, represented as an glass orb, and railing leading to an new portal to the Classic Tower. This is for players who still wanted to revisit the older version of the tower/game.

Subway Agents

The two screenshots are taken during Subway Agent’s First Renovation. The style was changed to an more semi-realistic design which later on progresses. During that time, I learned more about modeling in blender and created new part-meshes for the terrain, trees, rocks, and grass. There were no flowers or bushes at that time but, it was added later on. I was glad about this change because the smoothness of the slope of the newer terrain was much easier to navigate around compared to the steeper old blocky terrain.

During the Second Renovation, I decided to also change the main lobby to an more futuristic design as the game was intended to be an sci-fi shooter. I created arches around the train and blue pillars to provide more aesthetics for futuristic vibe. I learned more about the applications of the use of beams which I used for the lights. Also, I decided to make the trees and plants much more stylized by adding leaves-like details to the trees and bushes.

During the Third Renovation which hasn’t been fully released and I’m still currently working on, I decided to provide more realism. I don’t really want to overdo the realism since Roblox graphics are a lot more CPU intensive and I wanted more compatibility for lower-ended devices for users who wanted to experience some level of realism before crashing. In the first screenshot, I have worked on some new changes to the border of the levels by changing the old blocky design to an low poly design to match up more with the other semi-realistic models. In the second screenshot, I learned more about the new Material Manager feature and I decided to change the wood material of the trunks of the trees since many players had complained that the Old texture is too smooth and boring. Hopefully WoodReviewer approves of.

That includes some of the Renovations for our games this year. Next year, I will focus more on the core gameplay aspects to, as always, provide an much better quality experience for everyone to enjoy! Happy New Year!
