Both of these games have similar gore/blood effects, however one is considered unrealistic (blood overhaul, making the game 9+), while the other one is considered realistic (combat warriors, making the game 13+).
To be honest, I would like to include a bit of blood in my project, but I am hesitant on adding blood if it means the age rating goes from 9 to 13.
What do you guys define as realistic/unrealistic or heavy/light blood VFX when it comes to the age setting?
Age ratings are self-assigned and not endorsed by Roblox, one developer rated it as “unrealistic” while another rated it as “realistic”. If you have blood (similar to Combat Warriors) like that in your experience, it should likely be rated “realistic”, the first developer appears to have set it to “unrealistic” to get a 9+ rating which will likely end up getting appealed at a later date and set to 13+
Roblox defines realistic blood as anything that is not one the following (according to the questionnaire):
pixelated (likely heavily) - IE: having a few blocky red particles may not be deemed blood
discoloured (again likely heavily) - IE: blue alien blood may not be deemed blood
Again according to Roblox, light blood is when blood is infrequently seen in-experience and is not shown on-screen for a long period of time (IE: fleeting). If blood in your experience is realistic, it is likely assumed that the blood is “fleeting” (realistic blood pools, massive amounts of realistic blood, etc. are all too graphic and against the community standards)
This is just my view from looking into it, don’t hold me responsible if Roblox changes your rating manually
Honestly at this rate, I wouldn’t even consider using blood in any form. Unless you want to constantly deal with Roblox moderation, I highly advise against it. Sharblox just put out a video talking about users getting bans for just generating blood in the new ai material feature. I’ve already received 2 bans in the past week for using red clothing assets, just save yourself the time until Roblox addresses the issue.
At this point, you should probably hire someone to rate your game.
Don’t include it until the questionnaire includes more details. You can implement it now, but keep it disabled and don’t add a way to enable it until further clarification.
I’m saying this because so far, I’ve not seen any truthful answers that are cited.
From the Roblox Documentation:
Unrealistic blood doesn’t look like real blood, so if you display blood within your experience as pixels, or as a different color or shape, it meets the unrealistic criteria. Realistic blood, however, has the same color, shape, and splatter properties as blood in the real world.
After seeing this, it’s defiantly safe to assume that Roblox is not playing around with anybody who downplays these age guidelines.
They’re there for a reason, so I’m glad issues are like these are being taken care of on a regular basis.
I also love how the game owner doesn’t mention anything about purposely putting in the wrong age requirement in exchange for a bigger player count, which is pretty scummy on it’s own merit.
