(DISCONTINUED) Heightmap Loader (Mesh based) (v1.0)

Notice

This resource takes advantage of EditableMesh and EditableImage which may not be fully released to all clients, if any.

Heightmap Loader (Mesh based)

Heightmap loader is a simple module that allows for loading in heightmaps on meshes. All you need is the DisplacementMap image, the module, and the mesh.

  1. Add the attributes:
    image
Add a string attribute named “DisplacementMap”
Add a number attribute named “SurfaceHeight”

  2. Set the DisplacementMap to your image id (rbxassetid://{your id})
    image

  3. Set the SurfaceHeight to a nice offset
This attribute modifies the maximum vertex position offset (how high the vertex can be “raised”)

  4. Move all the items in the folder provided into their respective locations
    image
(ignore the Examples folder, just simple tests.)

Known Limits

  1. The amount of vertices WILL effect the heightmap resolution, and so does the actual image resolution
  2. There may be gaps in certain areas. Not sure how to fix it, but there may be a fix at some point.

Pretty good! Could you add color to it or overlay the original image on top of the mesh?

I know SurfaceAppearance works just fine. Decals dont seem to render well on a modified mesh.

Isnt this performance heavy? I mean, the point of textures is to give the illusion of additional 3d depth without dragging down the performance
