I have noticed when building that a Weld sometimes gets created between blocks, I assume this is when blocks meet without a space.
Are the auto added welds needed or not? do the welds add anything to the design apart from keeping the two parts joined but if using Anchors this should not matter?
Well, these joints just maintain the parts joined and if you anchor the parts, the welds would not change anything and they would be useless because the parts can’t move.
Anyone can see them, they are totally invisible so the welds won’t affect the design.
You don’t need them, you can even remove them if you don’t need the welds.
Welding is basically the attachment of 2 parts together. What this means is if the parts are unanchored and welded, once you hit play they will not fall apart. Its basically like glue for parts that are unanchored. If what you are building is going to be anchored then welds do not matter what so ever because anchored parts are not going to be affected by physics.
If you do not like auto welding you can disable it under the model tab under the tools section. It is called “Join Surfaces” and is enabled by default I believe. Once you disable it then it should stop auto-welding touching parts. Model > Tools > Join Surfaces
