There are hardly any reasons to need to copy and paste text into a comment except for spreading spam everywhere. Comments on any game/asset should be made in the user’s own words. Preventing users from pasting text into comments would greatly reduce the amount of spam posted on the site.
A notice could also appear telling the user that if they are trying to copy & paste something for free stuff, it is a scam.
The ability to paste text could also be made a permission setting for groups (making it a permission setting so that group admins can still do things such as paste links, if necessary - or if a group has other niche reasons to allow copy & pasting). Groups are prime targets for spammers as well, so this would be another key area to stop copy & paste messages from being spread in.
Neither of these areas have many legitimate reasons for a person to paste text into their comments, so this change would have hardly any negative consequences for regular users, and great benefits from cutting down on the copy & paste spam and phishing that plagues the site.
It would be a good day when Roblox finally implements spam prevention techniques. I would also like to see the addition of captcha so that the bots can’t post as I assume most are nowhere near advanced enough to decipher and read text.
On Chrome you can paste stuff into the YouTube comment box just fine, if you can’t on other browsers then that’s probably a bug rather than a feature?
On-topic: Would be cool, but the spam bots that don’t actually have a user copying in the spam message probably can bypass this since they don’t actually use the text box.
You can still make some javascript to prevent it, like keep track of the content in the box, I mean most kids won’t know how to get around it, so it WILL reduce the spam, but won’t completely solve it.
And you can still do a simple POST, ta-da new way of spamming! Then you’ll propose captcha so why not use captcha directly (can be set on/off by the asset owner)?
The purpose of this isn’t to stop the hardcore botters, but to prevent the average user from spreading spam such as:
“Builderman told me how to get 999999999 Robux”
“COPY AND PASTE [insert annoying ASCII figure here]”
Phishing sites that ask the user to repost the site’s link in order to receive robux (plus if users are notified that copy & paste messages are scams, this can increase awareness for avoiding these phishing scams)
Average users are the ones spreading most of the spam, so stopping them from doing it would be a huge help.
