I’ve been in a dilemma lately: should my open-world GTA game let players use their own roblox characters? I was under the impression that it’d look nicer if we set a default character for players, and they can purchase clothing around the city to further customize what they have. However, I’ve talked to a few people, and they said they would prefer to use their own characters than being forced to use the one set by the game.
What do you guys think? Will forcing players to use your game’s character make them turn away from playing the actual game?
Well it depends on the player’s preference but making it like allowing the player to choose either to use their character or use in game character seems kinda out of place. So I think sticking with the in game clothing is much better to avoid op players.
If it is an open world game, let the players choose their own characters! I usually like to go to open world games after i bought an item so i can check myself out.
You see a lot of youtubers getting a new hat like a dominus and they usually go to jailbreak since it is an open world game.
If you wanted to make custom characters it obviously would increase the realism aspect of the game because, its custom characters and not angels or demons running around lol. However i think you should allow everyone to wear what they want.
I’ve encountered some games that use a sort of hybrid solution, where you can purchase accessories in-game to put on your Roblox avatar in that game. I think work at a pizza place is one, but I haven’t played that game in a while.
Adopt me is a pretty good example of this being done actually, even though some avatars may seem out of place, people still enjoy it. Another example would be Roblox High School.
Might sound weird but I also notice a pattern:
Games that allow customization and a hybrid often have better experiences with younger people since they don’t usually have the robux to customize themselves.
Games that don’t have alot of or some customization and are set to one thing, Entry Point, Phantom Forces, Arsenal, often go well depending on the game’s story/style.
So games do it, got it. Personally I’m not interested in the specifics (given adopt me and roblox high school are both pretty icky games imho), but the concept of taking your Roblox avatar and applying modifications to it is still a pretty good one.
Got a real Dominus? Heck yeah. Don’t got one? You could probably still purchase cool stuff to look great with in-game currency.
The people playing your game vary alot from ages to ages. Younger kids enjoy customization more, more older people enjoy just hopping into the game with little customization to just play the game quickly.
However, it always varies. And yes, I agree with you. (I personally don’t like adopt me but kids like it so )
Some people, like myself, have had their avatar since 2012 and never really plan on changing it. So yeah, what you said might be true to a point.
I do miss my gold shades that came out of that gift box, though. Lost that account.
I think hybrid customization is the best of both worlds: letting people keep their avatars, but also letting people radically change it if they want to.
If we take a look in other games where you can change your avatar appearance, we might find alot of players without rich or good-looking clothes using in-game clothes, normally they are embarrassed with their current clothes, they might feel better if you add different clothes in-game, well, responding you:
Do players want to play as themselves?
Some people do, others not, you might want to give an option for that. If you want to keep your game more original, then i recommend you to use in-game characters.
I don’t think why this would affect players to not come back to your game.
This has been asked before, please use the search bar next time before posting.
Though to answer your question, I’ve seen multiple polls and even in-game complaining about preset characters. Overall more players prefer their own characters than those who do not.
