So as the title says, do we get a copyright strike from the owner if we use their fonts downloaded from websites like dafont.com? It’ll only be used for a group logo.
I’ve used the said website before and the owner of the font reserves the right to issue a copyright report against you if used against the set conditions such as (Do not use for commercial use, etc.) It’s best to message the font owner about the intended use case before using it if you’re unsure.
Take a look at this font:
Does earning Robux count as earning money?
Yes it is since you can cash out Robux.
But what if I won’t cash out robux from my group?
If you want to play it safe, you can always filter the search so only 100% free fonts that are in public domain show up.
Well, it would really depend on the font owner and the conditions he/she has set.
Oh, I wasn’t aware of that. Thanks for the heads up!
Generally, if you need to ask if something is okay to do then don’t do it.
In your case, if the font is copyrighted then you can’t use it and you may get a strike.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t cash out, but that you have the potential to cash out.
If I ask to use it, would the owner ask for any payments?
Even if you don’t cash out, it has still allowed you to get profit from the game, even if it is robux or USD($) you have still made some form of currency from his work, even if you never spent any of it, you still have it, and that is still with his work.
If you’re not 100% sure, you should consult a legal professional but the general advice is
Unless you have a license to use that content in the method you intend to use it, you should not use that content/
It would be a payment into a license to use their work, if you email the owner of the work, I am more sure they will link you to a purchasable license for their work.
I am really not sure if the owner will ask for payments.
If any payment is required it will only be a one time basis, unless the owner prefers frequent payments, it is at the owners discretion either way.
I’ll try creating my own font and if it won’t work out then I’ll pay for a license.
Emphasis on if as in it’s not likely to happen unless your exposure catches their attention enough to request a DMCA. It’s a minimal risk at the moment considering you’re an unknown figure in Roblox however if the license prohibits you from commercial usage than do so at your own risk.
Think of it as pirating software, illegal if caught however it’s a mainstream academic that has become normalized. If it makes you feel better, a lot of developers have pirated software on this platform both presently and in the past.
While this would be the best way to address it, it’s simply unrealistic. The probability of any professional typographical professional responding back to you is highly unlikely as again you’re unknown, information listed might not be available or could be outdated therefore making it incapable of contacting said artist. This step could be repeated infinite times resulting in the same result of being ignored or outdated information listed.
I would like to clarify, I’m not encouraging this type of behavior. I’m simply only stating for educational purposes only, so before anyone decides to report this controversial response keep this clarification in mind. It’s ridiculous I have to even include this disclaimer however this community can be rather judgmental if it isn’t what they want to hear. No offense to the minority whom remain open minded, the disclaimer was specifically for the majority who oppose controversy.
