Do welds cause unnecessary lag?


I keep hearing about the fact that welds can cause lag, and after searching the DevForum for concrete answers, I could not find any. That is why I created this post so my question can be answered.

So, to sum it all up, do welds cause unnecessary lag?

Do you mean the deprecated welds or WeldConstraints?

If welds, then yes if unanchored. If WeldConstraints, no.

Then yes, they cause lag if the parts unanchored. Use WeldConstraints instead

They definitely do if abused.
A few previous games had to be cancelled because there was a “Part Terrain Joint” weld in the roads, and I didn’t notice it until it was too late. There were thousands of these in the road parts. No wonder such a small map lagged that much.
Luckily for our current project, we made a script that removes all instances named like that.
