Does selecting a bad genre hurt a game?

So I’ve been working a new game for a bit, and when analizing metrics by games genres I realized something.

Genres like simulation and exploration have way better metrics than obbys or shooters(For obvious reasons), so If I made a game on a genre with really good metrics, would that make my game compete with other games within the same genre, making the algorithm recommend my game less?

Yes, and also could lead to more dislikes. Players would expect an obby, not a horro game (for example).

TLDR; it will hurt the game.

It shouldn’t, it’s a genre, a type of game, that doesn’t define quality. The only ways it could damage the game, is its quality, at least in my opinion.

nah, not really. you can just choose the “All” genre. im pretty sure Doors uses the all genre aswell.
