Does the new "Future Lighting" System Affect Low-End PCs Drastically?

If you go to Lighting → Technology in ROBLOX Studio there is now an option called “Future”

This makes anyone’s game look INSANELY detailed! Metals are reflective, you can see the grains in wood/wood planks, the neon material partially lights up nearby parts, slate is rough looking, etc.

I’ve searched the forum and I’ve seen problems with GUI bugs and performance increase bugs, but I’m wondering if the game is still smooth for common low-end PCs (maybe those that you find at a library or in a district school)

Let’s assume we have a game that already runs smoothly for basically every platform – low-end PCs included. Would changing to Future Lighting, then tweaking the lighting to make it look nicer, affect players much? I kept a read on my GPU temps when I made the switch, and it only went up 1C

Here is a video if you haven’t already seen this gorgeous addition:

Thanks for the help

Yes, it will. Basically, the more detail, the more stress there will be. Low end devices can still run the game but it might be a bit laggy, depending on the part count, and a bunch of other factors.

Maybe there isn’t much of a difference for you, but on lower end devices the lag is amplified.

When you say a bit laggy do you mean low framerate (<30?). Does that also mean connectivity issues?

Connection isn’t based on performance, it’s based off of wifi. But too much strain on the server can disconnect all clients.

Okay, thanks for the help :+1:

Yeah it can, but if you optimize the map properly and manage your part count and opt for meshes rather than unions and parts then you’ll do a great job of making the performance better for them.
