Does this count as gambling?

I want to have a minigame that players can play against each other in my game where they both pay 25 credits (which in the game is quite a small amount of credits) and then the winner gets 50 credits.

Credits can be earnt for free (without robux) in game or can be bought with robux. There is no betting in this game.

Don’t fully trust me on this, but I’m pretty sure that if it’s against another player, and you are gambling something that you can buy with robux, it is not allowed. But again, I’m not 100% sure on this one, I had a look at the ROBLOX TOS and it wasn’t too helpful.

From what I’ve researched, it is only gambling if the item is ONLY earned by purchasing with robux. If it can be earned in-game naturally then it is not considered against TOS.

Yes! That is considered as gambling.

I don’t believe it counts as gambling as long as there is not involvement of luck factors

This is considered gambling. Anything that has a person offering their money and expecting a reward. What you’re asking is referred to as a ā€œbet.ā€ Textbook definition: play games of chance for money.

A game called ā€œUrbisā€ has a casino where you can use in game money to gamble, but the money can ONLY be earned you cant buy it with robux. Maybe this can help

the credits are obtanable without robux so yea i think its allowed, look at plates of fate remastered, they have a money system where you can obtain more by luck.

Usually, gambling involves risking money or something of value on an event with an uncertain/certain outcome, with the chance of gaining more money or a prize. In the situation that you described, two sides are given money, and one side wins and receives all the money. This practically aligns with the basic elements of a gambling transaction.

plates of fate has like a full on gambling zone, like 10 machines (it’s amazing) and that game has been up for a while. and they use coins that you can’t buy btw

If the mini game doesn’t include luck or RNG and is purely skill-based, then it could pass as not gambling. It is a very slim chance though since you are now technically making a bet which is related to gambling.

Well, technically its not exactly a game of chance, it is skill based, if its pvp.

The game itself is a game and skilled base, yes, the act of putting money for an ante is gambling.

Yes, because they can buy credits. It doesn’t matter that they can be earned for free. Unless there is no way to obtain them through purchase, then it violates gambling ToS. Gambling is allowed though, the ToS was recently modified to allow it under the stipulation I just mentioned.

I know because I just finished developing and releasing a Texas Hold’em game that I put on hold until the recent Tos update.

In both ways It is considered as gambling!

  1. ā€˜ā€˜Gamble’’ Definition: Yes
  2. ā€˜ā€˜Gamble’’ ToS Definition: Yes
  3. Against ToS: Most Likely, other games like Pet Sim literally let you to buy limited eggs for robux in chance to drop a variety of prizes… So It’s hard to tell what is allowed unless you would literally build a casino game only based on a currency that can be purchased only via ROBUX
