I have heard of people accidentally setting their birthdate to under 13, enabling Privacy Mode and locking up the birthdate change option, meaning that to regain full Roblox access again, you are forced to wait until your fake age passes 13 and hope it doesn’t happen again.
As you cannot change your age if it’s set under 13 for security reasons under any circumstances, it would be better if people don’t get the option to change their birthdates at all. I don’t even think that there would be a valid reason for chaning your birthdate - it should be accurate at all times, and people have only one birthdate. So I think it would be better to just remove the birthdate change option, so their brother/sister can’t log on Roblox and tamper with their age settings so they would have a restricted account.
If Roblox will be able to solve this issue, people that are already over 13 years old would not have to worry about letting their brothers/sisters on their Roblox account. If they play with their settings, they could not change their birthdate and thus lock up the Developer Forum, enable a stricter chat filter, lock up some of their account settings, etc. until their fake age passes 13 again, which could be a very long time if they set it to the current date.
I would like to add that people who hack/compromise accounts can also change the users date of birth. I think this would be a great step forward in terms of account security because it would be one less thing hackers can do.
I thought as a child, you would need to add a parent’s email to regain access to settings like this. I didn’t know being totally locked out was a thing!
When I first joined Roblox, I blatantly lied about my birthdate so I didn’t have to deal with the restrictions I’m still using this account 9 years later, and I’ve since changed my birthdate to be accurate. I’m sure there’s plenty of people who did the same thing.
As a result, it’s probably better to not restrict changing your birthdate.
Why would the birth date matter anyways if the account is over 13. For example let’s say I have my account birthday sat to 2000 but I was actually born in 2003. Either way I (and my account) are over 13 years of age.
Perhaps an alternative solution would be making it so you have to email Roblox and verify account ownership to change its birthday. I don’t want to prevent legitimate people from changing it, like you. But I do want to prevent siblings and hackers from messing with an account birthdate.
